Article Marketing: Optin or Redirect to Sales Page??

Ok my main objective is to get CB sales as an affiliate, what would be a good idea in this case?

a) Drive the traffic to an opt-in page, give away a free report and later email them the offer or?

b) Redirect them to the product's sales page directly from the article??

Why don't you look at this from a different perspective...

Do you want to make money off them once, or more then once?

If you redirect them right to the sales page, then what you're essentially doing is losing them... What I mean by that is that you've sent them to someone else, even if you get the commission, you won't be able to make money off that person again...

Now, you bring that person onto your list, and you build a connection with them, you can send multiple promotions, make a lot more money off them, and more...

Basically you're giving your customer away by sending them directly to the competitor without getting there e-mail address.

Thanks for replying Caleb, Even I am thinking on the same terms and am more inclined towards getting them on my list but I seriously doubt that once I give a free report, will they ever buy anything from an Email?

Let me just tell you a short story, ok??

I get people opting into my list every few days you know, from a freebie.. Guess what? Some of them have converted into $167 buyers, and $127 buyers etc... And they joined my list for free..

If you think people don't buy from lists they got on for free, that's completely off... Since you see guru launches, most of those have a ton of people on there lists that got on for free, yet they are extremely successful.

Caleb I dont doubt the success of list building, but the gurus you mentioned mostly make a fortune in the IM niche with their lists ( I may be wrong ) , my niche is not IM... anyways il give it a try for sure, does any one has a resource where i can read more about structuring a promotional email ??

Its all about pushing the "emotional hot buttons"...

Sure a free report may "throw them off" a bit but the report shouldnt give away everything.

With email marketing you have the opportunity to present different sales angles with every email you send out. Think of it as building a relationship with your list.

You can then use your list for surveys, viral marketing and many other things... you can even send them to an adsense page that pays a lot Per click.

I would have to say build a list.

If you're a vendor/ a program owner or a service provider sooner or later you'll want customers not just sales/leads.

    Hope that's clear enough.

Every single million dollar business online has been built around an email list/members database.

    I like this one better...

    a) Drive people (actually, I prefer to draw them in voluntarily ) to an opt-in page, give away a free report and later email them an offer.

    b) After the opt-in, add a short promotion for the target product on the thank-you page, right after the confirmation instructions.

    c) Use the email series to build value for the target product and including a buy link in each email.

    d) (Optional) Continue emailing additional content, highlighting additional products related to the original target product, especially if those products enhance the value of the original target product. You can also tack on a soft pitch for the original product - "If you haven't picked up Product Zero yet, here's the link again: [link]" is sufficient.

As an alternate to d), you could try to get them onto a different list for a different product. Some products just don't lend themselves easily to ongoing communications.

I would recommend option a. That is because you will be building your list and you can market any thing at any time. Dont look for quick bucks, think long term

I used to use optin but got too lazy and just accepted the fact that I wasn't going to keep up with the email list. If you want a "set it and forget it" system, just redirect to the sales page.

This may surprise some of you, but this is a perfectly reasonable answer. If you don't want to deal with making relationships with people, or even do enough testing and research to set up a decent follow-up series, it's better to just send them along and take what you get.

Why entice them onto a list you don't intend to maintain?

I agree! But I personally would focus on the lifetime customer value. Sure it has to do with relationship building and in most cases you can set up an auto-responder...its still set and forget.

I think if you're passionate about the niche you would be more happy to engage with your list.

You need to build a list if you want to generate more cash from just 1 customer. Opt in squeeze page is the way to go.

    Why not do both?

After they decide to hit the Add to Cart button you can redirect them to a page to fill in their name & email to continue with the payment process.

I get better success by driving traffic to a squeeze page, that way you get more bites of the cherry if you can talk to them in your emails.

But it depends on the market you're in. If you're in a market that has an interest, say dating, it's good to get them on your list. If you're in a market that is selling stuff about curing yeast infections, a list is not that useful.
