Newbie question on tracking visitors, etc

Hi

I've been lurking here long enough. Time to say hi and ask a question.

What is the easiest way to keep track of visitors to your site, where they came from, etc.? I have looked at awstats on cpanel and to be honest, I don't understand alot of it. I have heard of google analytics, but not sure if that is what I need. Or is there something easier?

If awstats is what I need, is there a free tutorial on it somewhere?

Thanks everyone - you all have been such a help to me already in all my lurking.

Google Analytics for sure. Just requires you to setup a free account. Then they will give you a snippet of code to put into your website. Google Analytics will give you very useful stats on your visitors and their behavior on your site. I would definitely recommend it.

For a website Google Analytics is the way to go, but that leaves a lot of the essential tracking you need to do undone.

How about tracking any ad you place online? Any clickthroughs from your site to your products? Downloads of your products? Views of of your affiliate offers?

It's all essential data you need to make informed business decisions.

I suggest you invest in a good tracking service, and I've covered a great one (12SC) on my StartBusinessMentor.com Training Blog
