My Secret To Making Money Fast By Doing Things a "Certain Way"

Hello Fellow Warriors,

I'd like to share with you my personal experience of how I was able to go from a total newbie to full time relatively quickly by doing things a "certain way".

I meet a lot of people here that have been struggling for months, sometimes even a year or more to make consistent money online. Hopefully the following insights will help some of you to move into the profit zone a lot quicker.

In my opinion, the biggest mistake most new marketers make is jumping from one "shiny new" method to the next. They never give themselves enough time to go through the proper experimentation and learning curve to master any one method. They are too easily distracted and impatient.

Pick ONE proven method and stick with it. Become passionate and obsessed with it. Only focus on that method until you've gained some level of mastery over it. Ignore all other methods until you're making money with the first one.

If you see other methods that catch your attention, make a note of them, bookmark the info and put it on the backburner for later. Stay the course.

This is what I did in beginning. I focused exclusively on one proven method and turned a blind eye to everything else. I read every course and forum thread I could on the subject, asked a ton of questions and most importantly... I TOOK ACTION right away. Because of this approach I was able to get into profit very quickly. I was able to make a profit within my first week or two as a newbie and went full time shortly after that.

So which method do you choose? It should be a method that you resonate with, that excites you. Don’t worry if you don’t have all the skills to do it – if there is a step involved that you’re unfamiliar with, you can learn it. We have a massive amount of info here on the WF and you can easily learn new skills if you’re determined.

Make sure the method is a tried and true method, not a brand new one that may get saturated in a few months. There are a ton of new methods coming out every day that have not stood the test of time. No doubt many of them are effective but others are not. As a newbie you should choose a method that has a proven track record of success. That’s why I chose the method I did – I knew for a fact that many people were making a solid income with my chosen method because of all the forum posts and courses on this subject. Sure, there were a lot of other methods that looked more exciting and promised “$1000 per day for doing nothing starting today” – but those types of methods didn’t have the stability I was looking for. I wanted to have as close to 100% confidence as possible in whatever I was going to commit to.

Once you’ve achieved some success in IM then you have more freedom to take some risks and experiment with newer methods. However, I still apply this “choose one method and stick with it” approach when learning new methods. I look around and see what excites me, I choose ONE method and totally commit to it until I’ve achieved some mastery over it. Rinse and repeat. Before you know it you’ll have 3-4 methods under your belt that you can rely on with confidence.

Naturally there will be times when you commit to a method and it just doesn’t work out for you. You’ll minimize the likelihood of this happening if you stick with ones that are tried and true. However, occasionally I’ve dumped a method. Here’s how I know its time to throw in the towel: When I lose ALL enthusiasm for it. I’ll take a break and come back to it and if I still feel totally uninspired to continue then I know its time to move on. There is no sense in continuing to do something that drains your energy. Just don’t be too eager to quit too soon. Challenges and set backs may come your way, that can be a natural part of the learning curve and you should learn to work through them. But when every day becomes a struggle, then you know its time to reconsider your path. Either make some adjustments or let it go. Don’t beat yourself up.

I believe the approach I’ve outlined here is the “secret” to fast success. It worked for me and I’ve seen it work for many others. This approach is responsible for me making consistent profits almost immediately as a newbie and allowing me to go full time shortly afterward.

I encourage you to choose ONE method TODAY that excites you. Make a commitment to it. Become obsessed with it. Have enthusiasm for it. Live, sleep and breathe this one method. And most importantly… TAKE ACTION ASAP!

To your success,
Matthew Olson

    Wow! You Rock!

Great advice. After 3 months of floundering, I've finally figured that part out.

It's hard to focus because you always feel like there is so much you don't know. I want to work with clients and have to appear to be the pro.

I once read Sandra Bulluck had studied acting soo much so finally said enough studying and just got there and did it.

I'm going to just get out there and do it! Whew Ok starting monday

Right there with you about starting on Monday. Fits perfectly in to the thread I started the other day.

      http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...challenge.html

Basically it is just a thread for beginners that will help motivate each other and get everyone to commit to actually doing something instead of nothing in the month of November.

Time to finally take action. Hope to see you or any other beginners there!

      Hey Matthew...great post, well put.

After nearly a year of bouncing around from one method to another, I too am starting to see (a little) success from article marketing, which I use to promote my little niche sites.

I wonder if you would share with us your favourite course/thread on article/bum marketing?

Great Post! I'm a newbie and at this moment I'm doing my research about IM. I have realized that there are so many different methods. I have tried to pick one of them just what you have said in your post but they all say "This is the best method, you can earn xxxx bucks a day". I'm really confused?! Any advice for newbie? Thanks a lot..

Yes, the key is to be consistent. I have been trying all sort of methods and thus doesn't work out as much as I would like. Now that I have found my 'method' I am going to see it through. Thanks for the reminder.

The funny thing about "methods" is that sometimes they work in conjunction with each other very well to make a killer-combo method. For example, article marketing and list building go very well together. Niche review sites and adsense/amazon go well together. I have found that just because one method may not work well by itself doesn't mean that it isn't a highly effective supplemental method for another...Just my $0.02...

    Thanks for the reminder Mathew.

The problem is, unless we try out a bunch of different techniques/methods and first hand experience the frustration or the profits,we always wonder if what we are not doing, is somehow holding us back (w.r.t profits).

But of course, by the time we have sampled a few different ideas/techniques, a lot of time and money has been burnt.

Vijay, the key is to go back to the basics and not get sidetracked by "bright and shiny object" syndrome. The time tested methods work, but they are typically tedious and not the most exciting thing around. The issue here is that many newbies don't want to work and focus on these tried and true methods, but instead want the quick and easy riches.

For example, Matthew started on article marketing (tried and tested), which still works to this day. How many people do you know out there (especially newbies) who are willing to focus on this unabated for several months until they see results (usually after some testing and tweaking)? I think you already know what the answer to this question is....

Well put Paul - I agree, as a newbie the key is go back to basics and
not get sidetracked by the "bright and shiny object" syndrome.

This can be easier said than done. We are bombarded by so much info
that it takes a considerable amount of self-discipline to stay the course.

But if you can do it, the rewards can be substantial... and fast.

I got swept away a few days ago when I discovered the forum and started working on a different IM method that I heard about here. Last night I said screw that and went back to what I was doing and today set up my second affiliate marketing site.

This post was a good affirmation.

I love this forum, affirmations and information. Even when people aren't so nice, they are civilized about it. I'm cool with that.

Matt, I couldn't agree more. The issue of information overload is a very real one in IM. It takes self-discipline to stick with a tried and tested method when there are product launches for new-fangled systems promising instant riches occurring every few days.

I feel like focus and self-discipline are probably some of the most important traits to possess when it comes to succeeding in IM. If you don't have them, you could be lost in the wilderness drifting aimlessly from system to system for a long time without any results to show for it.

The sad truth is that the majority of newbies will read Matthew's post and think it's all basic stuff they already know about. There is a huge difference between knowing and actually believing (and implementing) it, though. Knowledge is utterly worthless if not applied.

Most people get side tracked with stupid things like reading emails and facebook when they could be making money, newbies often doubt if there can be money made online and often get caught up in the gurus dream the ones being sold to them.

Matthew is 100% right find out what niche and system your going to follow and stick to it, treat it like a business not a hobby and it will pay off.

This is so true. Many newbies keep seeking the "magic bullet" system thinking that it'll magically make them rich overnight. The truth is there aren't any big secrets in IM, and you could probably pick up all the knowledge you need to start a six-figure business in here and in the War Room. However, not many people are willing or able to actually put in the effort to get there.

Knowledge without application does not bring you any results. And you do NOT need to study IM for 1 year or more in order to come up with a winning system - it's more than likely already right in front of you, but you need to work hard applying the system in order to see any tangible results!

Article marketing is basically advertising using articles -- information marketing.

It's classical, traditional, and it works. It will probably work for a few years yet. :-)

Bum marketing was all the rage a few years ago. It was a method of marketing affiliate products by writing articles for the article directories, without a site of your own. It involved picking low-competition keywords.

The big challenge was that people just wrote hundreds of articles, and never created a real business.

Bum marketing, by its very definition, is article marketing on a very shoestring and in many cases non-existent budget (i.e. $0), which in the strictest sense of the word means writing articles and posting them on free web properties like squidoo, blogger and hubpages.

Regular article marketing can and should include having your own domains (and hosting) that you can direct people to from ezine articles and other article directory sites. If you're ambitious, you can even set up squeeze pages with opt-in forms to send your visitors to, allowing you to capture your visitors' emails and follow up with them. Of course, this is not true bum marketing as this more ambitious approach requires a domain, hosting and also an autoresponder account.

If you want to treat your article marketing as a true business, then at some point or another you definitely want to move away from just bum marketing, which by its very nature is not designed to be a long-term and sustainable business.

I can't thank you enough, as a matter of fact I can't even thank you on my post (not enough posts I think). This type of thread is the most important type of thread. Especially for newbies. Most of us come to the internet just looking to make money and in doing that have no idea how we want to go about that and jump around. Instead of just looking to make money, we should just be looking to learn how to do something. Notice the " do something" If we learn to do something we will make money and that's true online and off.

This sounds a lot like a metaphor I read once about pushing a car. Basically it says that if you push a car it will start to move very slowly, but if you keep pushing it will eventually gain momentum and move easily.

So it's the same, instead of looking for another car to push just stick to one and do your best to make it gain that momentum.

COOL post Matthew. I totally agree with you....apart from being LASER FOCUSED and "OBSESSED", here's what helped me:

        - unsubscribing from "gurus" lists
        - checking emails ONLY twice a day (NO automatic send/receive)
        - checking messages and answering the phones ONLY twice a day
        - scheduling my day (like literally having a time table of sorts)

The above 3 things works wonders, as it allows you to 'focus'.

That car pushing analogy is perfect. Most of us start internet marketing by trying to move a whole parking lot full of cars at once. Racing from car to car, we get a little movement and then rush over to the next car and start pushing. Sure, you can get a dozen cars moved a few inches this way, but better is to get the keys out of your pocket and use them to move ONE car to your desired destination.

There is also the "speed" factor.

There are methods that are slow to show results, probably too slow for the newbie. The beginners work, they don't see results, they look for something else or they quit. Because we human beings need to see some result fast.

That's why, in my opinion, paid traffic is better than free traffic, especially when you start. It shows you results fast (even if you suck, you see it fast) and it PUSHES you to be accountable.

If you use free traffic methods you can spend months doing social media, article, linking and so on and thinking you are working very well. But you aren't getting any money in that Paypal account, just lots of content (so what).

If you have your money on the line with a PPC campaign you better understand how it works. It's like doing trading with a real account VS a paper account.

So I would say: paid traffic is better for the newbies and free traffic for the experts. Unfortunately the opposite usually happens...

      Best,

Yes, there will always be an area that resonates with you. You just feel comfortable with it. I totally agree that you should buy every possible course on that particular topic, and totally focus on it until you achieve success. Follow their methods and don't stray or take shortcuts until you get results.

Now I'm focusing on one method and try to ignore other methods, but will keep in the back of my mind, so that when I have succeed, then I can use other methods or system to make it better.

Okay,I have already made a promise to myself to stick to ONLY article marketing for at least 3 months before I decide to jump to another method. I agree wholeheartedly with Matthew. In fact the sales that I made are through writing articles before I got distracted into doing something else and the sales just stopped....

Uhh! You are correct, this is why many newbies do not make money, I personally wasted almost a year and a lot of money buying this and that before i could fix a good programme. I wish the newbies could just meditate and take action, it is better to learn from the experienced. Thanks for your product ' ARTICLE MARKETING SHARPSHOOTER METHOD' Any newbie that lays his hand on it will stop wasting his time in reading this & that but will be able to concentrate on what will give him money and reputation. Can you or anybody please explain in details the term 'backlinks'

It's human nature to feel down sometimes, feeling worried that this business where I gave most of what I have will just go to waste, but still can be able to cope up and pursue what was started because of these heaven sent people around. Again, thank you!

      Extra Tip's

DONT BE A COMPULSIVE WSO BUYER!!

Dedicate yourself to your current system 100%

Check your emails twice a day only (you can easily waste a lot of time here)

Sam is spot-on when he says:
" DONT BE A COMPULSIVE WSO BUYER!!"

The "shiny new object" syndrome applies not only to the newest shiny IM toys arriving each day in our email boxes from all those ever friendly gurus..., but also to the newest WSO and the WSO of the Day which captivate our minds and entice us away from our often-wavering focus.

It takes some understanding of the situation and an applied discipline to stop or at least curb the ever present urge to latch on to the next golden opportunity.

Thank you Matthew for a great post.

My problem has been that although I am doing things "a certain way" - it is basically "my certain way", which involves fear and procrastination. I have built blogs and written articles by the dozen, but for some reason have avoided creating a list like the plague. I know in my heart of hearts that this is something I have to do and I am not quite sure what is stopping me.

So for me I have to make sure that "my way" is transformed into the "certain way" you speak of if I am to enjoy any measure of success in the future

Thanks again for focusing my attention

You are so right. Almost everyone jumps to the next best thing or newest shiny object.

It's not a problem to use different channels to bring about the same result, but to focus on say, one niche, and drive it as deep as it can goes makes more sense than trying to be everything to everybody.

    • Fantastic post, Matt. I'm new to the Warrior Forum, but not to the IM game. I've been hesitant over the last couple years, though... Dabbling in one method here, getting scared when I didn't see instant results, ditching it for something new... I've also been chasing that non-existant "magic bullet", but I finally realize that it's just time to get down to business doing the tried-and-true methods (I was compulsivly buying products in the past, but you have no idea how much money the WF have saved me just by looking here first for some reviews!).

Also, I just realized today that rather than reading about all these methods, it would better serve my time to actually implement one or two of them so I could actually start seeing some sales. Would take much less work, time, money, and effort, too!

Here's to taking inspired, consistent action and achieving results!

It really all boils down to being serious and treating your internet marketing as a business. Those that treat it as a hobby inevitably jump from method to method, thinking that the next shiny new system they see is the solution to all their problems.

Whatever path you choose in IM is going to require focused work and dedication, and you just really need to realize that this is just like any other business, except that it is done exclusively online.

Matthew, you hit it right on. That is exactly what drew me to your How I Went From a Struggling Newbie To $100+ Days In 2 Weeks! WSO because you were not trying to impress anyone and you told your story which is basically 95% of most newbies stories without the "Success" part. I am so excited to get ready to start your WSO and will give a very honest review. The crazy thing to me is I cant believe how long your WSO has been around and is still changing lives. That shows me your methods must really stand the test of time. Your advice above is so TRUE but not just about "Internet marketing" but everyday life in general. I think this world is so fast paced and always jumping to the next best thing that we forget to stop and smell the freakin roses.......Anyways just my "Million Dollar" rant lol. Hey Matt, great post!

Sorta reminds me of the Lombardi quote, "Gentle, this is a football..."

He knew the goal was scoring and winning.

Regardless of how fancy a play, Lombardi never lost sight of the goal.

With IM it's easy to get sucked into the "possibility" rather than a process we stick with day in and day out.

Yes, this post is very true. The truth is, none of us wants to wait for the prize. We hear about overnight riches and want that too (because it is better than working). But, if you just work on one thing, it is likely to pay off.

So, find a proven method and be realistic, that is the key. Go long tail and forget about search volume. Just go for buying type terms. After you get that down, then scale up.

One more ~ If you find yourself with an in box flooded with "offers", opt-out! You will be surprised how much that helps.

It's easy for newbies especially to get caught up in the 'overnight money' hype, but what they don't realize is that it took a lot of planning, focus and effort to get to the stage that they see in typical IM salesletters, where the money literally seems to come on demand.

They need to put that out of their heads, and just knuckle down and work on one established method until they see results. Nothing happens overnight when you're a newbie, and the sooner they realize this, the faster they'll actually start seeing results with their IM.

Thanks for this post. I learned the hard way that jumping from one "promised" method to another will never get me anywhere.

I actually wrote a guest post about it for the Freelance Folder website:
How I Learned to Avoid the “Shiny New Object Syndrome” | FreelanceFolder

Hopefully sharing our experiences will help others avoid the same mistakes.

Don't worry if you don't have all the skills to do it - if there is a step involved that you're unfamiliar with, you can learn it. We have a massive amount of info here on the WF and you can easily learn new skills if you're determined.

Make sure the method is a tried and true method, not a brand new one that may get saturated in a few months. There are a ton of new methods coming out every day that have not stood the test of time. No doubt many of them are effective but others are not. As a newbie you should choose a method that has a proven track record of success. That's why I chose the method I did - I knew for a fact that many people were making a solid income with my chosen method because of all the forum posts and courses on this subject. Sure, there were a lot of other methods that looked more exciting and promised "$1000 per day for doing nothing starting today" - but those types of methods didn't have the stability I was looking for. I wanted to have as close to 100% confidence as possible in whatever I was going to commit to.

Once you've achieved some success in IM then you have more freedom to take some risks and experiment with newer methods. However, I still apply this "choose one method and stick with it" approach when learning new methods. I look around and see what excites me, I choose ONE method and totally commit to it until I've achieved some mastery over it. Rinse and repeat. Before you know it you'll have 3-4 methods under your belt that you can rely on with confidence.

Naturally there will be times when you commit to a method and it just doesn't work out for you. You'll minimize the likelihood of this happening if you stick with ones that are tried and true. However, occasionally I've dumped a method. Here's how I know its time to throw in the towel: When I lose ALL enthusiasm for it. I'll take a break and come back to it and if I still feel totally uninspired to continue then I know its time to move on. There is no sense in continuing to do something that drains your energy. Just don't be too eager to quit too soon. Challenges and set backs may come your way, that can be a natural part of the learning curve and you should learn to work through them. But when every day becomes a struggle, then you know its time to reconsider your path. Either make some adjustments or let it go. Don't beat yourself up.

I believe the approach I've outlined here is the "secret" to fast success. It worked for me and I've seen it work for many others.

And most importantly... TAKE ACTION ASAP!

    To your success,
    Matthew Olson

I have tried many differents types of IM over the years with little success. The main reasons for failure is flitting form one model to the next, never sticking with one thing right from the beginning through to the end.
Sometimes I have bought a course, read it through or watched the videos and decided before implementing any part of it that I wouldn't persue it because it looked like too much work, thought it wouldn't work or felt that Ididn't have the necessary skills to follow it.

But what in actuality was happening was the "shiny new object" syndrome as previously mentioned. I somehow rationalised that the grass was always greener if I ditched what I was doing and tried this new thing I had been presented with. I got a thrill from pressing the "buy now" button as it gave me the illusion that I was doing legitimate "research" work and that I was whittling the options down to "the one". Surely this new method would be a quicker and easier path to riches than the last?
All this resulted in was information overload and confusion as to how the various business models and types of IM connected to each other.

It has taken me many years and lots of wasted cash to realise and truly accept that success in this business takes work, dedication, self-belief and persistence. There really aren't any short cuts if you want your business to be built solidly for the long term.

Focus on one thing from beginning to, well, when its making you money and you think you know enough about it to outsource it all profitably.
