Can I ask a question and not to sound like a Ney Sayer here or looking for trouble, I just want to know since 5 people mentioned Facebook so far (and thats a lot). This is for our learning

All the people suggesting Facebook, how many are getting 1,000 visitors a month constantly from Facebook.

I tried it, it was a lot of work for less return compared to document sites, videos, articles, Question/Answer sites. The Return on time was terrible and traffic was little (maybe 300 visitors a month for a lot of effort). I did pick up a WSO on training outsource people which they will me working on next week giving it a second shot.

From Facebook, I would like to know how many people are getting more then 1,000 visitors a month (and how much time they spend to get that)?

Hey What About free Ways To get traffic like Traffic Exchange Services Or Safelist ...

I think SEO is the answer to be honest. It is easy and although takes a long time its permanent targeted and FREE.

For me without a doubt the way to build long term sustainable traffic is through Article Marketing.

I get around 750 visits a month to one of my sites from FB. No effort. I Just remember to update the fan page for the site occasionally - especially when there are new posts on the blogs. Actually, I just linked the fan page to my rss feeds, so, no effort.

I have a new site which went up about 1 month ago and, without going and analysing the stats, I would estimate that of the 1200 or so visits so far 70 - 80% are from Facebook.

This is small change to what people who have been using FB for longer are getting.

That's the best way to get huge traffic - it's targeted - it works. All you have to do is find a way to make it profitable.

I would say keyword rich articles!

Twitter is a great option. I have exceptionally good experience with Tweet Attacks.

In my opinion one of the best ways to get and keep traffic is article marketing. It won't cost you any money but it will cost you some time writing the articles.

To me, the best way to get free traffic is through youtube. most of the people on the major article directories such as Ezinearticles are affiliate marketers. They'll either copy you content or outright steel it and place on your site. you are trying to create visitors to your site so why not write an article and read it on youtube. Youtube is one of the biggest search engines available.

The answer is "All of the above".

There really isn't a better or worse way to drive traffic when it comes to free traffic. Everybody uses the method that best suits their style and/or schedule. I think you must first think which method appeals the most to you and then focus on mastering it or use a few or many of them in a way that they support each other. In the end I think the best method is the one you choose. ^^

The best free traffic is the type that you are good at.

For example, if you're good at writing and like doing it, then article marketing is the way to go. Keep churning out these articles with anchor text linking to your website.

If you like videos and enjoy making them, then create videos non-stop and upload them to YouTube, Viddler etc...

If you're a technical, quiet sort of guy try building backlinks to your website like directory submission and RSS feed submission etc...

So decide what you like doing first of all, then learn that skill with the info. in this forum and go full throttle working at it. Stick with the method for a few months and see where it will take you.

When you say "downline", it makes me think you're trying to promote some kind of pyramid/MLM scheme. Yes, some people do make some or even a lot of money doing those things but it's not legit money and it's also not sustainable. All of those systems end up crumbling. Even if you make a ton of money on a website like that, you'll still have to actually get paid by the person running it. Often, the numbers won't add up which means a certain portion of the earned money will never be paid.

I agree with what most of the others have said as far as the best way to generate traffic and build loyal followers - I just wanted to be sure it wasn't the kind of program I mentioned. I always have to stick my nose in to tell someone to avoid these.

If I'm going to depend on someone else to write my checks, it better be a real, reputable company. I may be jaded, but when you get screwed so many times you just write things off completely. I'm also from a time when stuff like that was a lot more common (been making money online for 15+ years), so I may just be rambling for nothing here, lol.

I use a number of free ways to drive traffic to my sites.

Facebook is one that I've been experimenting with recently with quite a bit of success.

I've used forum marketing quite successfully in the past, and youtube marketing also.

Forums! If you can type, you're qualified. I think it's the easiest way to generate good, targeted traffic. Perfect for new people.

Facebook, an attractive Affiliate program, Twitter, Forums, Articles, Guest Contribution, Youtube (your own videos or link up with other publishers who don't have links in their description), Google SEO. Develop a good multi faceted strategy that is manageable!

SEO, articles. Those who say Facebook is the best way, I wouldn't agree. Only if you get a viral idea and your group or page gets really popular, and it won't be constant. Investing time in SEO to improve serp rating is a good choice.

I have recently started experimenting with getting free traffic using Twitter. It can be done and I send traffic to some of my blogs that way.

The problem isn't Twitter itself, the problem is how people go about trying to get link throughs back to their site. Too many people believe that by placing a quick 140 character tweet the world is going to come running to their blog.

It doesn't work that way, I must first just say I'm no Twitter guru, but I had a Twitter account and I thought I'd try different tactics to see what works.

The most important thing I found trying to use social networking as a traffic generation tool is that you have to be Social. You need to build a targeted group of followers and build relationships with them. Don't make every Tweet a 'CHECK THIS OUT ON MY BLOG' type of Tweet, I have found that to be the quickest way to lose followers.

You wouldn't do that on a blog, you wouldn't make every post a 'Buy my affiliate product post'.

The other thing I have found is that you need to create different profiles depending on the niche that you are trying to target. Doing simple things like this I have found Twitter to be a reliable free traffic generator.

Wow, 27 responses before Domenico mentioned "what you are good at" in post #29.That's getting close, in my mind... Now we're at post 46, and nobody has mentioned the one I think is the MOST IMPORTANT: The method you are going to continue using.

No method is the best, unless you follow through and continue to use it.

I prefer a combination of SEO, Article Marketing and Web 2.0, but if I didn't use them consistently and continue to do so, a single shot in any of them isn't going to have any measurable result.

Perseverance is key to successful online marketing, and getting targeted traffic to your site is essentially a test of your focus and determination. If you are expecting the world at your feet, with piles of money around you without any effort, you are dreaming, not building a business. Similarly, if you fragment your efforts by always jumping at the next new "easy button" someone is claiming to sell, you won't get there in any reasonable time, and will likely quit from frustration. Get a process going, stick to it, and results will come. Better optimized keywords, domain names and such will certainly help, but even lesser searched keywords can eventually yield fruit, if you only keep at it.
