Website Flipping Vs Affiliate Marketing - Which Is More Newbie Friendly?

I am little bit confused on which is better to start
right now.

I have a full video course on Website Flipping
and another one for affiliate marketing

I love both but I can start them together

Your comments will be highly appreciated

  • I'd start with affiliate marketing. Your course will hopefully not only teach you how to drive traffic but also how to successfully presell your visitors in order for them to buy through your link.
If you mastered these 2 skills (traffic generation, preselling), you'll generate revenue for your sites. If these sites have traffic and revenue, you can sell them for several hundred dollars, if not more. If one site makes you $300 a month, you could possibly sell it for $1500. That would be impossible if you just created sites and sold them without generating traffic or revenue for them.

    Hope that helps,

Exactly what I was going to say!

It really depends on what you are after.

If you build up a site that makes affiliate money and get it earning without having to do much maintenance then you have a passive income stream that will bring in money while you build up another site. Soon, you can have an army of sites earning you money while you sleep.

On the other hand, you can get 10 or 20 times your monthly income if you flip it so that's one big lump sum you could enjoy. But, then you give up the monthly income and you have to make another site to make more money.

Of course, you could do both - build up sites that earn money and sell of your lower earners keeping the big guns in your portfolio while you grow it to bigger and bigger monthly profits.

My vote would be affiliate marketing. It's not the slam dunk most gurus try to sell you on, but it's a great way to get started making money online with very little investment.

Eventually you should add other income streams like site flipping. You can even flip some of your affiliate marketing sites!

That's essentially what Trevor Sommerville's Website Flopping is about. You create websites designed to make money, and whichever sites aren't performing to your standards, you take over to flippa.com and sell them.

Once you get comfortable with affiliate sites, you can move on to ad-supported sites, Clickbank products, even physical books. (Teresa Miller has a great product about that last one.) You get short-term income from the flipping, and at the same time you're developing a portfolio of passive-income sites that are constantly improving.

I need to step out of my comfort zone and start doing this myself. The "product creation and selling WSOs" model has become nice and cozy, but I'm barely scratching the surface of what I could be doing if I took things a little further.

I would say you focus on doing the one that you enjoy the most.
If you like them both the same then you should try both of them at the same time and see which one gives you the most value for your time and then stick to that one.

I have always wanted to do affiliate marketing, it is my first love in the internet marketing business.

But since this year, i have become so addicted with wordpress site flipping, have a lot of themes and ideas to sell sites.

So I might try the two at once, thanks a lot anyway.

Just keep in mind that you don't have to be perfect to do things, it's more important that you do them.

If you wait until you're perfect you'll never get anything done. Also remember that your own opinion is the most valuable, you can get a bunch of great advice here in the forum, but none of the opinions you get here is final.

So yeah, just do what you feel and tell us about how you did, so maybe we can help you even more.

Honestly, it doesn't matter which one you start with as long as you put the time in to learn how to do it well. When newbies struggle, it's not so much that they can't figure it out, it's that they jump from method to method which gets you nowhere. Both website flipping and affiliate marketing can be highly lucrative so it's kind of a coin flip as to which you can have more success with. I suppose if somebody made me choose I would lean toward affiliate marketing only because learning how to do that well helps with other aspects of marketing greatly when you start scaling up your business.

Well said. As a newcomer to the game I've been overwhelmed with the ammount of documentation, software, videos, are available to be purchased. I made the mistake of moving between project to project. Getting into CPA and PPC campaigns along with a couple of small SEO projects. In turn I've spent money on various pieces of software, WSO's, and other e-books to try and figure out a strategy. While this has helped me understand the method for building an SEO site. It actually has not helped me put money in my pocket.

I was fortunate that I setup a PPC campaign with Media Trust that has been making me money. I mean, it's a few dollars a day but that is obviously better than nothing. So, I suppose I could attempt to find more PPC campaigns and figure out a way to make my CPAs actually convert for me. I need to stay focused and quit jumping around. I think I'm going to just go flip the SEO sites I built and stick with PPC and CPA for the time being. Maybe try and join the Inner Circle with Mr. Souza.

I think it has more to do with the kind of money that you want to make. Site flipping is better if you are in a pinch and need money fast, so if you have a good site you can flip it and get money quick.

But I'd suggest that you use the earnings from the flipping to get a bigger and better site.

On the other hand if what you want is a long term "slow buck" for yourself then go for affiliate marketing, or make your own product and promote it the same way you would an affiliate.

I advise that newbies start with affiliate marketing, then add site flipping because at starting point it is easier to get money through the former than the latter, later, after you have mastered all, gain experience and have cash in your pocket you can then start flipping which is equally profitable business.

Yea you would want to start with Affiliate Marketing first,

Find a hot market using ebay pulse, or google trends or yahoo buzz. Or go to amazon.com view their products on their home page for each category, and check out the search trend for those products they are generally hot products that's why amazon left them there on the first page.

Find 3 keywords to optimize for, using the google keyword tool, make sure they are competitive by looking at the green bar (advertising competition) and how many global searches they are receiving per keyword.

Start a wordpress blog, create some high quality valuable posts, and than start marketing your blog using youtube, article marketing, and forum posting in your niche topic.

That should get you started real quick. After you see sales, and traffic being generated than decide if you want to stick with this affiliate site, or sell it for profit.

I'd definitely start with affiliate marketing first because you have to know what kind of site to build that will make money as a website flip at any rate.

the great thing about affiliate marketing is you don't need to have a product first. however, you can actually learn a lot by going to flippa.

you can do a search for affiliate sites that are earning money and get great ideas for what you can do to set up sites, what they look like, the kind of reviews people are putting on there to make money.

    hope that helps

I flip websits full time and have dedicated my business model to it. The thing with the internet is, if you try to be a master of everything youll be great at nothing. Pick a nitch and own it. Become the go to guy. When you have mastered that, then you can go back and start a new project. Everytime i loose focuse of my primary business we start falling behind. I have found that staying with a model that works and generates positive cash flow is key to making it last. I know it doesnt have anything to do with youre actualy question but i hope it helps. In my opinion though, flipping websites is a much quicker way to jump into the internet game. Thanks

To do site flipping you need experience. You need to understand the value of a site and sometimes spice it up to create more perceived (or real) value. This requires experience, even if you have a course, as a beginner it's not easy. Of course you can just go for the quick buck and buy and flip to make a dozen dollar here a 50 there, but then you hit lots of competition and in the same places (Flippa or eBay).

To do affiliate marketing you need to get traffic and do some sort of pre-sale. Much easier even if you don't get the big paydays you get with site flipping.

Frankly I would go for neither one and would choose infoproducts, starting with WSOs (since you probably like Internet marketing).

In terms of technical knowledge required, affiliate marketing is far easier than website flipping.

If you've never built a website before and FTP and cPanel sound like gobbledygook to you, then the choice is obvious - affiliate marketing! That does not mean you cannot pick up the knowledge required to flip sites later on down the road as you learn to build your own websites for affiliate marketing.

Personally, I think website flipping, if you're willing to learn how to do it and the technical skills required to transfer the site, upload files, build a site, etc. is the faster way to make money online.

There are literally thousands of different "methods" for affiliate marketing. Which one will work for you? Which ones don't work? Which ones are scams? Only trial and error will tell. With website flipping, it's much more cut and dried. Build great websites, get traffic and some revenue for them (for optimal ROI) and flip for nice profit.

@dessytall1, I love affiliate marketing with regards to learning and applying effective or proven ways of achieving success in it through getting quality web traffic, recently, I got learning about flipping sites at Flippa. Asking and the related answers on the same were also helpful. Thanks.

It's not affiliate marketing vs. flipping. If you want to successfully flip a site you should successfully monetize it first. It doesn't matter whether you use affiliate marketing or Adsense for that, you must generate income first and sell it for a lot more money after you managed to do that.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of website flipping period, although some people do have a lot of success with it.

I do think that affiliate marketing is great for newbies to get into, just as long as you don't try to promote the same programs that everyone else is promoting. The best advice I can offer as far as this is concerned is to stay away from anything internet marketing related - it's just a horribly competitive market and will cause you a lot of discouragement. Pick a niche, make a website using some keywords and market a single product or two with that site. Rinse and repeat.

No matter what you decide to do pick one thing and stick with it. I write out a plan every time I start a new project. If I don't have a plan I get distracted and nothing gets done. When I started out the biggest thing that kept me from being successful was my lack of focus. So whatever you deicide to do focus on that one thing and nothing else.
