Does just an url on a profile page count as a backlink?

I paid for some "general" back link creation.
The service found some unrelated topic, 3-5 PR blogs/forums and created an account ID/pw
In the account I can find my profile which has my url (sometimes an anchor text link).
However nothing was posted/ written/bookmarked in the handful I checked.
So is this a backlink?
I 'assume" the profile and url are inside their admin database but I am not sure if that is spidered by the search engines or not and therefore counts as a link.

Anyone know?
Anyway to check?

JK

It will count if it is set to do-follow. There are many places you can check this at, just google for some checkers and you will find plenty!

Doesn't sound as though you're getting quality backlinks from this service.

Link quality is important which means that links from websites with greater authority and relevance to your site will count as more valuable links to you. Often page rank is used as a way of judging quality of links.

If you have a link in your profile back to your website, it will count as a backlink, although even that can depend on a couple of factors:

    1) Is your newly created profile 'public' which would allow the search engines to index it?

    2) Does the webmaster of the site not assign rel="no follow" to their links? Webmasters doing this would not pass on link juice to your link in the eyes of the search engines because they are telling the bots not to consider that link.

Either way, don't get too hung up on these things. The more links you have with your website URL, the more possibilities there are of people clicking on the link and ending up at your site.

It only counts when the specific page is indexed by google...otherwise google can't find your link

DoFollow or NoFollow is not important for your ranking, only for the indexing of your site.

      Hope that helps.

What? Dofollow or Nofollow is very important for your backlinks. It means Google will not follow your backlinks on that website.

Profile links definitely count as long as they are hyperlinked. Anything that's hyperlinked is a backlink whether it uses keyword anchor text or url anchor text.

Thanks for the responses...I think the net net is they will count as long as they are do follow.
Although there seem to a discussion as to whether no follow is really no follow...I heard one wag say its because Google knows better than webmasters so they decide if they follow or not....any truth there?

I'll do a quick check that will have to check if they are do follow...I think Firefox has an add on for that oui?
