So What's the Hot Christmas Toy This Year?

Seen people talking about a bit but I think we need a thread devoted to this topic, after all, Halloween will soon be over.

We all know every year there's a hot Christmas toy. Or, rather, there's a hot Christmas toy every holiday season that the media declares is a hot Christmas toy making it even hotter! So I guess I should ask, what do you think the media will declare the hot Christmas toy this year?

Last year of course, it was the Zhu Zhu pets, little hamsters or whatever. One of the most famous ones from years past was the Tickle Me Elmo Doll, which is the only one that stands out through the years and probably broke records at the time. I remember it being a pretty big deal.

So what will it be?

On Amazon I see Fisher Price Dance Star Mickey as being the top seller right now. Will that be it? Great to see Mickey still popular after all these years. Amazing...

Not sure exactly how to use ToysRus site, but I see a Kung Zhu pet as pretty highly rated, perhaps this is the evolution from Zhu Zhu to Kung Zhu this year, probably same company, and maybe they will rule again.

On Kmart's site I see another Mickey dancing doll, think we may be on something here. Or it maybe Handy Manny Repair Shop, as it's a best seller but will it continue to be?

I always watch this niche with interest, the one "declared" hot Christmas toy every year. It's also a great way to try and make some money with Christmas traffic. Yes, some will say it's too late, but unless you're sure what's going to be the hot one this season, it's not too late! Especially for those who want to drive traffic in the search engines and know how to use 3rd party sites to get ranked fast, it's never too late. You can also take this knowledge and use it for paid traffic, as well, and for sure if you know the hot Christmas toy and can get some cheap traffic you should make some money this holiday season!

So, any other ideas out there for what will be hot this Christmas?

Ooo, even some ZhuZhu's over there. The company that makes those was pretty small last year and I think they were completely surprised they become the hot toy last year. I assume they've expanded big time by now.

Interesting, I bet the UK's big toy will probably be different from the U.S., be interesting to see what crosses over, though.

My six year old grand daughter loves my iPad (mainly for
looking at pictures though) and she never tired of playing
with the Zhu Zhu's while I visited over the weekend.

This is an excellent question, but I ask not only what
will be popular with the kids but what will the adults
      flip out over.

I also agree that it's not too late to get in front of the
holiday traffic. I fully expect to make six figures this
holiday season... but I started positioning long ago,
and one of my biggest sellers will actually be a simple
cookbook that I wrote years ago. Since it makes a
great stocking stuffer, people often buy 10 or more
copies (on impulse) during the holidays.

One thing that I will be doing is setting up pages on some
of my consumer site that let people comparison shop.

I'll identify what electronic gadget will be really hot, and
then use a simple wordpress plug-in to let them shop
from my site. Simple - Easy - Profitable :-)

I can't comment about Christmas toys, because I don't target that niche yet (maybe next year).

Holiday niche targeting is something that I got into a bit over a year ago though and I really like it. The sites just sit around all year and then for a short while they are exploding - it's exciting.

I did want to come into this thread and write something because it did draw my attention. That's because I am targeting Christmas for the first time this year. Last year, I worked on some of the lesser holidays just to get used to it before I went after Christmas.

I still don't want to dive into the Christmas toy market, because I think that's where everyone else is. I try to stay away from the absolute hottest market in any particular field. To a certain extent, you may call me a bottom dweller but my life is pretty easy down here, LOL.

I will not, however, divulge my Christmas market for this year. Perhaps I will post a thread on it when the holidays are over. I just know I would pick up 10 new competitors in my niche if I mention it here, sorry guys. I don't mind giving out tips and some of my secrets, but I don't ever give out my highly targeted niches because just a couple of competitors could potentially ruin my spots.

Ya, not looking for secret niches, just looking for the hot Christmas toy declared by the media. Maybe it will be soon, as Halloween is just ending.

One things for sure. They will declare it before Thanksgiving in the U.S. as the Friday after Thanksgiving is the biggest shopping day of the year in the U.S.

I think even though a lot of us will probably be trying to get in on the hot toy craze it doesn't mean there's not enough room for all of us. On the contrary, I think the fact that it will be a red hot niche means there's room for everyone, and plenty of traffic. Sure, some will fail but if you go about it the right way you should be able to find some sales.

There are plenty of "hot toy" lists out there for US toys if you want them.

Someone above posted Toys R Us, but you can also Google Kmart's list and the Toy Insider list. As for the UK, the Toy Retailers Association has the UK list posted above, but it also has more specific lists for boys, girls, educational toys and so on.

So that's your research done for you... go and get making sites!

I don't know but I'm guessing the TV ads will let us know pretty soon. I've seen my first Christmas ad already.

I spent a few weeks researching hot xmas niches for my Xmas Riches List. There will always 'this years hot toy' but I tend to focus on the toys that are in demand every year. Focusing on these means your site/lens/hub or whatever will still be bringing in cash for you in 3, 5 10, years time.

We haven't even seen any Christmas type ads yet so don't have a clue what will be the top toy. I'm betting that Zhu Zhu company will have a representative item in the top 10 list, but I saw one item in that list above that sounds like a winner to me. I won't say which one ...

EDIT: I just did a domain name search for the item I'm thinking about and it's gone in all extensions, so looks like some others will be promoting it too.

I was babysitting my nieces yesterday who spent the whole day watching children's TV so I got to see quite a few toy ads. The toys that came up over and over again were Kidizoom Video Cam, Tonka Richochet, Monopoly Crazy Cash & Paper Jamz Guitar. There were lots more but I saw multiple ads for each of those.

Wow ... pretty easy to see what people are going to be promoting when you start looking for exact name match domains. I just registered a couple and a generic hot toy domain, but they're going fast.

Well, ask that baby you're holding what he/she wants for Christmas and I guarantee you it won't be an iPad, iPod, or MacBook Air.

Ha ha, ya, probably true for most.

I am officially declaring Dance Star Mickey as the hot toy for this year.

Just wonder if the media will follow my lead.

        Just a guess...

That's probably going to be hot. My official pick is the FurReal doggy thing.

          • I think that anything that deals with technology is going to be hot. Most kids nowadays are very advanced when it comes to technology. Ipads, cellphones, video gaame systems ,computers ,etc. I think those things will go like hotcakes.

Both of my grand kids want their own laptops this year, just like mummy, daddy and Granny Trish. That's our choice for them too, then our laptops won't get as sticky.

Harrison at 7 also wants anything to do with outer space and just an ordinary lego kit that he can make anything he wants out of and games for his PSP.

Isabella at 5 wants a twin buggy for her dolls, more dolls and games for her DS

I'm seeing a lot of searches lately for a particular type of dolls house, but it's very cheap at Asda so it remains to be seen how well it will sell on the Internet during November and December.

My guess looking at the various lists, particularly the Toy Retailers Association Dream Toy List and the advertising going on I would say that it will be the Toy Story 3 Buzz Lightyear Deluxe Action Wing Pack for the boys and the Barbie Video Girl Doll for the girls. I have not looked at young kids yet.

    Just my guesses anyway
