.Asia Domain Names Worth It?

There's an exact match keyword that I want but its only available with a .Asia extension. Would it be worth it to go ahead and buy it, or would I be better off trying to do a variation and getting a .com, .net, or .org extension? Its a fairly universal product, but if I were to go with .Asia I'd of course have to focus on marketing it toward people in Asian countries and Asians in other parts of the world.

    Hi Jon, I would personally only get it if my main target was the Asian market.

    Here in the UK, .co.uk often outranks .com for the exact match.

    From what I've learnt about SEO, Google places a lot of emphasis on the country code top-level domain, for the SERPs within the specific country.

    Asia isn't a country of course, and .asia is a sponsored top-level domain - but I would assume it would have very close to the same leverage if you intend to target Asia.

      For people local domains can outrank generic .com domains, but an .asia domain in my opinion has no value. And the reason is that people don't know about the .asia TLD. It's already enough they remember to write correctly the URL with .com (or the local TLD).

      This isn't a problem just with the .asia TLD but with all the new ideas of domains that have been launched some years ago.

      .com (or your country if you are local) is the only way to go. And frankly I don't believe a .asia domain can do miracles with Google, if any.

        I don't know whether you're right or not about the value of a .asia, but your logic is flawed.

        People's awareness about a top level domain, doesn't solely determine the value of a top level domain.

        If that is the case then you are contradicting yourself, as you say .com OR your own country is the way to go.

        There is no way it is a 50/50 split on awareness, or even close.
