motivated but not making money? is it possible

I'm sat here pondering the following question: is it possible to have a motivated person who wants to make money online; however they can't seem to achieve it?

Before you jump in and state an answer, have a really good think about it.
They just don't go hand in hand do they?

lets be honest if your motivated you will do things, if you're doing things then you will start to do some things right, hell it may not be that everything you are doing is right, but if you are doing just a few things right then the pennies will flow one way or the other, unless of course your batting away at a really tough niche, but even that's achievable to make a bit of money in that niche even if you have no system and are doing it haphazardly, as long as you are consistently doing and learning, you will start to make money. Its impossible not to

I'm not sure you can have a motivated person who makes nothing unless you're targeting a non paying niche, huh how long would you do that for? Before a penny started to drop?
So the question remains,: is it possible to have a motivated person who wants to make money online; however they can't seem to achieve it? I'm not sure you can.

Sure it's possible to be motivated and still not earn. You can easily be motivated, yet lack direction. That is why it is important to plan out your attack. Steer your motivation towards making a plan and then stick to that plan. You can always modify the plan later.

Of course you can. Like Brian said, they may lack direction. They may also lack skill. There are many ways to get it wrong. That's why most people fail in this business. A lot of them have motivation but they don't have know-how.

I mentioned this the other night and there's that word again "business" on the net, its mainly consumers looking to buy a magic button that will generate a paying business by doing nothing, pie in the sky types, I would class as un motivated, their wallets are motivated yes, but are they

making a plan and then stick to that plan. You can always modify the plan later; confusing but I know exactly what you mean, make a plan but its not set in steel the plan is a work in progress to be modified and fine tuned as you learn, "no plan survives enemy action"
however even doing things haphazardly they will make something eventually, and if the person is motivated they will carry on and work out what worked eventually, so I'm still not convinced, even without a plan

Motivation of itself is just not enough to make money online. As E. Brian Rose and ladida have already stated, you can lack direction or skill and still fail.

Success in online marketing is not all that different from the physical world, You can be very knowledgeable, and have the skills needed for article marketing, for example, yet not have the complete picture and fail because you don't have the correct direction... For example, you may not have made the connection between keywords and targeted traffic, or content that creates a call to action.

You could have a very nice, informational blog, with tons of followers, but unless you promote your newsletter sequence or affiliate links, it becomes a free source of information on the 'net. If that's what you wanted, great, but if you want to make money online, then something is wrong.

Perhaps the biggest problem I found when looking at products for beginners, was they tended to expect the buyer to already know some of the processes. Thus, though the customers were clearly motivated, they lacked the direction or perhaps skills needed to succeed. After looking more closely at the rest of the market, I found that many people that are in online marketing are still missing some of the fundamentals, even if they are already making money. I don't know about you, but there are few days that go by that I don't learn something new, or how to do something I already know about, better. For a newbie, I know a comprehensive, accurate and step-by-step program was needed, and because I couldn't find one, I created one. I currently have a WSO underway for my new Honest Marketing Techniques program. If you have interest, please check it out.

Sure, you need motivation, but it will only get you so far. You need the right knowledge and to take action on that knowledge. Motivation will help you want to get and achieve those things, but motivation without the proper knowledge doesn't really get you where you want to go.

Motivation without the other two are like wanting(Motivation) to go on a cross country trip, wanting to won't get you there, you need a Map(Knowledge) and to get in a car and drive(Action).

I agree to an extent, however if you are motivated and as such you are willing to do, also, then you will start reading doing learning doing learning tracking converting thus making money, without motivation they will go no where, if someone is motivated then they will seek out the knowledge to succeed surely? with or without a mentor imo.

mentoring, so without it everyone will fail? nah
if someone didnt do a great deal and expected to make money then yes they will fail as most do as they buy into the push a button dream, article marketing was mentioned, why would anyone be writing articles yet not know what the purpose of that article was to achieve? it does not make sense does it?

    Good question...

Let's say I'm highly motivated to get a town on the other side of the country. First I'll look to see if there's a map available, or second I'll ask everyone I meet along the way.

I could however have a dodgy sat nav that sends me to the wrong place, but once I realise my mistake I'll just keep driving and will eventually get there.

I'm a motivated careful driver so won't crash myself... but of course someone else could crash into me and kill me.

But all in all there's an extremely high chance I'll get to that town

but yes I do agree with you, without motivation theyre going no where unless they can pay all the way there and that kinda defeats the object unless theyre a greedy barsteward

lets take this forum, there is a vast amount of information here, a motivated person will hone in on that info and move forward with it until they hit a stumnling block then come back and find the answer or use google and away they go again, I'm not sure a motivated person can fail for too long, not at all convinced, yes they may make many mistakes along the way but if theyre motivated they will strive through the barriers eventually

It takes much more than mere motivation to succeed at this. You can't haphazardly try this and that and then achieve success, like you've said above. The right mentor will help tremendously and shorten the learning curve, but this is not absolutely necessary.

The issue here is that there are so many methods and so many avenues you could possibly try and do in IM. You could be motivated and still go around in circles for years before you ever achieve success.

I think what is required in many cases is a burning "do or die" desire and FOCUS that go way beyond just your basic motivation for IM success. I've read and listened to many of the success stories of famous internet marketers, and a common thread I found was that they had this overwhelming, overpowering desire to succeed no matter what was thrown in their way, and in many cases they had no alternatives to fall back on, such as a job, savings, etc. IM was basically their only way out and they literally had no choice.

There are very few things that clarify your focus and resolve more than the "back to the wall" scenario that I mentioned.

It is definitely possible, and a prime example is someone who is very enthusiastic and wants to learn, but keeps learning and doesn't put anything into practice. Mainly because he keeps getting caught up in the next best thing.

FOCUS....that is probably the biggest issue for newbies. Too many opportunities and to much info overload end up being the causes for failure to produce profit most of the time. They need to focus on one project and see it through until it is at least making money.

Just my 2 cents. speaking from experience

Yes, you can definitely be motivated without success. Many times those who aren't having success are not making money because they either lack the proper or knowledge or aren't following a proven model to completion. This doesn't mean they are unmotivated, but it can often times mean they are misguided or lack FOCUS. Focus and motivation are not the same thing. Someone who is truly motivated will eventually find his way because he will use his failures as a stepping stone to success.

    Hello mmaeb.

You ask- "Is it possible to have a motivated person who wants to make money online; however they can't seem to achieve it?"

That could take a long time to answer... but I'll be brief. I say YES.

1.) If you work on too many things at once...you're unfocused.
    2.) If your marketing sucks.
3.) If you keep quitting and changing products, services or business opportunities...you're inconsistent.
4.) If you're in a really competitive niche
5.) If you're impatient...you want to get rich quick.

It's like I say mmaeb- "Study, Take Action and Don't Quit!"

    To Your Success,

Listen. No matter how much you want to say that motivation is all it takes, it's just not.

Everyone's level of comprehension is different. Some people are visual learners some need to actually learn through guided experience, others need a combination or something entirely different for them to "get it."

Just because you can connect the dots to understanding a certain way doesn't mean someone else will be able to. If that were the case everyone who worked very hard at becoming a millionaire would be one. The truth is that many folks who became millionaires didn't even have to work as hard as the many more who tried and failed. They just had a true understanding of what it took and did that. There are people to work 50, 60, 70 hours a week to make ends meet. They're very motivated to take care of their family but they don't know how not to struggle to JUST survive. They're motivated. Being motivated doesn't guarantee success. Motivation is fuel. That's it. You still need to know where you're going and how to get there, otherwise it's an aimless drive.

And it's true if you're motivated enough you will TRY and figure it out but the operative word is TRY. That's not a guarantee. You still have to have a certain level of understanding and comprehension to ask the right questions, even.

Not everyone is built for everything. That statement alone is enough proof that motivation is not enough.

Another thing to ponder on - you could be motivated and working a lot on your Internet marketing, but have you actually examined what you're spending the bulk of your time on? Do the activities you take while "working" on your IM business actually have the potential to make you money?

By stopping to reflect and examine your activities like this frequently, it should put you on the right track especially if you feel like you've been working very hard but not getting any results.

    Motivation sucks.

It's just not working out this way.

You need your brain to make money, especially if you want a lot money.

Your brain doesn't need motivation in order to path you the way into big money, but you need your brain to work hard and come up with ideas and ways to execute.

Don't worry about motivation, but worry about what you do.

    Does it make sense?

    Do you have an USP?

Has your plan a long term aspect, does it have a future or do you just want to try the next possibility to make money blah blah? Do You even have a plan or do you just work 20 hours a day not nothing where this will take you?

That's way more imporant than worrying about motivation.

You don't need motivation if you need to lose 50 pounds, but you're way better on the long term if you follow your own eating habits and start watching how you eat and what every day.

Try zooming out of your life for a day and look at your actions not from motivational standpoint, it's not about killing yourself while working, the society likes to tell us we need to work hard, but that's crap.

    Earn while you learn!

    TK

I think in some cases, the more motivated you are, the more you're opening yourself up to the dreaded "analysis paralysis." When something truly motivates you, it's easy to get wrapped up in learning and never take action. Sure, in this arena that could be a lot of people who are only motivated to find the magic bullet...but still.

Lots of assumptions in this thread,
Why do I think its impossible for a motivated person not to make money (I didn't say millions or even rich, I said make money)

Even in the worst case example a motivated person may jump around buying the latest craze that's professed to be the new money clincher eventually that person as got to come full circle and have the haha moment this just isn't working - where have I gone wrong (in the third person sense) at that stage there as surely got to be some reflection - on what have I done - what worked a little - what absolutely bombed out and more importantly why.

Focus is a good answer I rather like purpose myself - I think a lot of people jump around doing things willy nilly without any clear purpose or a goal in mind

Why are you doing and why are you doing it?

Can you go on infinite without learning? I think not but then again I may be wrong

Planning as a lot to do with success or failure but to some they appear to think you need a detailed map that the national geographic society would be proud of - not so

You do need an aim or an end result - once you have that building block work out how to achieve the end result
What if and why - measure and test Analyze what you are doing - are you being productive in your business or are you wasting time

Lets turn the question on its head
Can an unmotivated person make money? I also think they can but it wont be sustainable for the long term

Being motivated and taking intelligent action can be two very different things.

One of the biggest keys to reaching your income goals is to take action that can conceivably make you the kind of income you want.

There are plenty of highly motivated people making less than $5 an hour doing manual labor and other low paying jobs.

So if you are motivated it's essential that you keep asking yourself the question: "Is what I'm currently doing likely to make me the kind of money I want to make?"

If not you need to adjust what you're doing.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

Of course it's possible. Hard work and motivation is necessary but ultimately it's going to be your brains, smarts and savvy what's going to bring in the cash. No matter how motivated you're, if you take the wrong steps you'll not make a cent.

Indeed Andrew, but if someone is motivated to succeed then surely they are taking action, if they are not taking action then imo they are not motivated to succeed.

Anonymous Affiliate; correct although; how long would a motivated person carry on doing everything wrong? imo they would seek the answers to why theyre failing; which brings me full circle to a paragraph in my first post:

lets be honest if your motivated you will do things, if you're doing things then you will start to do some things right, hell it may not be that everything you are doing is right, but if you are doing just a few things right then the pennies will flow one way or the other, unless of course your batting away at a really tough niche, but even that's achievable to make a bit of money in that niche even if you have no system and are doing it haphazardly, as long as you are consistently doing and learning, you will start to make money.
