I disagree, I have found Google's to be the least accurate. And this is only because it is not necessarily tracking the same data we are using keyword tools for. There has been a lot of discussion about this lately, maybe someone can chime in with a more detailed explanation.

Are you talking about keyword research for PPC or SEO campaigns? I'll comment on the ppc side of things, the google keyword tool is useful for the ppc side but it should not be your final say in what keywords you use. The google KW tool gives you tons of keywords when you type your core keyword in there, but the thing is that since almost everyone uses that tool your compettion is much higher and those highly searched terms will convert much less in the end (sales wise).

Use this tool to get a general idea on what is going on and as mentioned many times before, the best keyword tool is the human mind, think like your customers, expand your list and tailor it to what your customers need, provide that solution asap.

    Cheers,
    Magic

P.S - no tool is 100% accurate, never rely on tools, tools just give you a basic idea on what is going on.

The word "best" could mean different people.

But if you're referring to search count or volume, there's no other tool out there that's more accurate than google.

      Why?

      1. Google is the King of search engines. They hold the largest data of search queries made by people from all over the world. That is 67.9% of search market.

Here's a fact, Wordtracker uses only 0.67% of search market. So guess who's more accurate.

      2. Google will not fool marketers just to make money. If the search volume is untrue, nobody will use their Google Adwords. Marketers start their PPC campaign with keyword tool.

      3. I've proven it myself. I have keywords that are rank number one and simple comparison to my visitors to Google search volume will validate it.

Note though, that Google includes the searches made in their search partner. You just need to know how to weed out the search from the network and you have the actual search made by day, week, or month in Google.com website.

        Hi, and thanks for sharing.

Do you mind expanding a little on how you do this?

Just don't 100% rely on the search count, do your own test using simple articles or Adwords advertising...

I must stress that Google still the "most accurate"... name one that is better than Google!

Not to long ago I finally found the answer to this question.
At least an answer I fully agree with.

Google is the best tools because of few things.
They are the only keyword tool that uses data from the Google
search engine, just that should already give people a good idea
what is the 'best' keyword tool out there.

If your going after long tailed keywords you want to use Google
only because of the numbers. You see if a keyword tool is
gathering data from a 1% source instead of Google's 68% source,
just by doing simple math you can see how many long tailed
keywords are not being picked up by other keyword tools.

Google ad tools are made for one reason and that's to make it easier
for you to spend your money with Google, they won't make any
money if they provide wrong data to their advertiser because if
advertisers don't get a solid ROI from the ads they won't be putting
more money into Google. So it's in their own best interest to provide
    targeted and accurate results.

      Hi.

This make a lot of sense, at least when it comes to PPC.

I have heard / read that those numbers is including estimate from Google network as well.

If those search numbers is including estimate from Google network, the numbers is not accurate for SEO purpose when it comes to long tail keyword phrases.

Are you sure that's correct. I must say I'm not 100% on this subject but the
google network are sites that have adsense on them and there really isn't a way
for people to actually search a keyword. It runs the site with a keyword density
spider that than shows ads according to that.

In the Google keyword tool it states how many SEARCHES are being made for a
        keyword not impressions.

This is taken from the Google keywords page:
        Code:
        "Approximate Search Volume [Previous Month]
This column shows the approximate number of
search queries matching your keywords that
were performed on Google and the search
network in the previous calendar month. This
number is specific to your targeted country
and language as well as your selection from
        the Match Type drop-down menu"
There you see they talk about search queries and when they talk about gathering
it also from search network, it's basically all the sites that have "Google search code"
        I would !think!

This is the way I see it, I might be reading to much into it and if anyone
can slaughter my theory with facts I would be more than willing to read it!

        Also when you said:
If those search numbers is including estimate from Google network, the numbers is not accurate for SEO purpose when it comes to long tail keyword phrases.
Even if this is true Google would still be the most accurate! funny thing but it's true.
The other keyword tools are only gathering data from 1%... it just doesn't give you
enough data to work with, sure you can multiply it by 11 but are you then telling me
that wordtracker is more accurate when they tell people to multiply there numbers
        to get 'estimated' results.

    I use WordTracker.

They email a weekly summary of the top 300 or so keywords.

They also have a free keyword tool: Free Keyword Suggestion Tool From Wordtracker

You need to multiply the WordTracker results by 11 to get the total number of searches on the Internet.

      always disagree

So I'm going to try, I'll submit my question to there team and I'll post

This is the email I sent out to Google support, Because it's a weekend I
won't be expecting an answer until on Monday.

    Code:
    Hello,

I have been trying to figure out the Google keyword tool
for some time know and there's one thing I can't wrap my
    fingers around.

I know the keyword tool is mainly supposed to be used by
people going into adwords but people have found it just as
useful when it comes to SEO and the best way to rank in Google.

Me and others have been discussing the "Approximate Search
Volume [Previous Month]" data that the Google Keyword tool
provides. I have copy and pasted the exact word for word
description that Google gives for this data:

    "Approximate Search Volume [Previous Month]
This column shows the approximate number of
search queries matching your keywords that
were performed on Google and the search
network in the previous calendar month. This
number is specific to your targeted country
and language as well as your selection from
    the Match Type drop-down menu"

So the question on everyone's mind is if these results are
accurate when it comes to searches made in the Google search
engine. I know it states that "keywords that were performed
on Google and the search network" But no one really knows
what is meant by 'Google search network'??

Are the results gathering data from sites that have adsense
on them or just when people actually search the keyword in
the Google search engine, whether it's on google.com or sites
that use the Google search engine?

    Thanks for your time,

    Regards,
      Ebbi

Google's tool is great for PPC...

If you are looking for a universal tool, try one of these:

      Seo Book
      Market Samurai
      Wordze
      Wordtracker

These are all good. You just have to choose one that you are comfortable with.

When it's all said and done, none of them are 100% accurate.

There is no guarantee that you will get the traffic that any these tools estimate.

Use keyword tools as a guide. When you gain more experience with them, you will be able to use them more effectively.

Like I promised here is the answer I got from Google support!
I can't say it really answered the question but now I'm almost sure
that the results are coming from both sides

    Ebbi
    Code:
Thank you for your email and for informing us that you are using our
Keyword Tool to give you data. After reading your question I understand
that you would like a clarification on what is the difference between our
Search Network and the Google Network. Also I understand that you would
like a detailed description on what the statistics the Keyword Tool gives.
Please note that the data given in the Keyword Tool may not always be
accurate owing to the dynamic nature of searches. I have given the
    information below:

    About the Google Network

The Google Network is made up of sites and products that partner with
Google to publish targeted AdWords ads via their site or product. Google
can target your ads to search results and relevant web content on a wide
variety of sites and products to help you reach a vast and highly targeted
    audience.

Search sites are those that provide AdWords ads along with search results
after a user searches for a particular keyword.

Content sites display AdWords ads alongside related content; Google scans
the content of a Web page every time it is viewed and automatically
selects ads to display when keywords match the page content. For instance,
a page about digital camera reviews may contain AdWords ads for digital
cameras. Reaching over 470mm unique Internet users and over 70% of global
users, the content network is the easiest way to put your ads in front of
    your customers.

    Keyword Tool Statistics

Each column in the table shows a different statistic about the keyword
results. If you access the Keyword Tool from within an ad group, certain
statistics will factor in your performance history, as well as your
campaign's country and language targeting (if you target a region or city,
only the country will be reflected). If you use the stand-alone or
external Keyword Tools, your country and language selections will
influence these statistics. Learn about the different variations of the
    Keyword Tool.

In addition, the Keyword Tool's search volume statistics will vary
depending on your selection from the Match Type drop-down menu. If you
select Broad or Phrase, the tool will factor in certain variations of your
keywords that could potentially trigger your ads. Learn about keyword
    match types.

Here's a description of each type of statistic:

Estimated Ad Position: This column shows the estimated position for ads
appearing on each keyword based on the maximum cost per click (CPC) that
you enter in the Calculate estimates using a different maximum CPC bid

group will use your ad group's maximum CPC. Leaving the field blank in the
stand-alone or external tool will make the column default to positions 1
    to 3.
If you access the Keyword Tool from within an ad group, the ad position
estimates will factor in your performance history and your campaign's
country and language targeting. The country and language that you select
will affect the estimates in the stand-alone and external tools.

Estimated Avg CPC: This column shows the estimated average cost per click
(CPC) for each keyword based on the maximum CPC that you enter in the
Calculate estimates using a different maximum CPC bid field. If you leave
the field blank, the tool accessed from within an ad group will use your
ad group's maximum CPC. Leaving the field blank in the stand-alone or
external tools will make the column default to the average CPCs for ad
    positions 1 to
If you access the Keyword Tool from within an ad group, the average CPC
estimates will factor in your performance history and campaign's country
and language targeting. The country and language that you select will
affect the estimates in the stand-alone and external tools.
