Adwords vs organic conversions

Anyone ever tested the conversion percentage of Adwords clicks compared to organic clicks? I assume it would be the same but am a newbie so I figure its better to ask. I'm trying to figure out how to price my rent-a-sites.

A lot of people just use an arbitrary price like $100 and try to compete with the yellow pgs but I'm trying to focus on value and think being competitive with adwords makes sense. So if I'm charging $100/mo and the cpc for my phrase is $4, I better be getting 25 visitors/mo thru organic to be competitive, unless organic converts better than adwords.

Any insights are appreciated.

This actually depends more on your landing page.
Most adwords traffic will be sent to a landing page
while organic traffic ends up at a less than ideal
page in terms of usability and conversion.

If you have identical adwords and organic traffic landing
pages, conversion will be the same(it is for me).

There is no one-size-fits-all answers here. Some tests show that PPC converts better, some tests the opposite. I've seen test results where organic traffic spent double the time and had triple the pageviews and higher conversions than ppc.

In the end it's what works for you.

However bear in mind that for the same keyword phrase if you rank among the top 3, organic results get WAY more clicks than PPC - and they're free.

I've just bought a book for a long flight on that topic, written by an ex-google employee.

Although I'm not too far into it (I always fall in sleep on long flights), there are already 2 important aspects to take away from it:

    - 80% of Searchers click on 'organic' search results. Think about that!
    - Your organic ranking will be there long time as opposed to your paid listing is stopped the moment you stop paying.

A very interesting topic, I will post more later once I'm further into the book.

As far as conversions I would have to agree with Tyrus it seems if the landing pages are the same the conversions are about the same.

Simple as that. If you set up adwords with a landing page and the organic page is different Im sure you'll see a difference in your conversions.

You may want to think about what type of people click adwords ads vs organic links. They're not much different so why would the conversions be any different? Just a thought...
