How do you rate your top ten competitors (affiliate marketing)

What methods should I use in doing this.

If I go and look at the top ten sites, what am I looking for?

    Domain backlinks, URL backlinks, whether they're using the keyword phrase you're targeting in the title, domain authority. Get the SEOQuake plugin, it's helpful.

    Domain age and backlinks first and foremost. If the websites you are competing against are several years old you are in for an uphill battle unless you have old domain yourself. The exact keyphrase in the url will also be difficult to overcome but not impossible. Click on your competitor's pages and check their title tags as well, is it the keyword that you are trying to rank for? All of these things can be overcome but if the top ten competitors have SEVERAL of these things it will take significant time to rise in the SERPS.
