Vbulletin mods installed on WarriorForum?

Hello Warriors,

I am looking at starting a forum (in a non-IM niche) and am considering using vBulletin for the platform.

I could be wrong, but I am guessing this is the software used by The Warrior Forum.

I would really like to incorporate functionality such as a private membership area and ads that fly-in or appear in the corner of the forum (such as the 'The War Room' ad in the bottom left hand corner here).

I was wondering if people know if this functionality was custom designed for WF, or if it uses existing mods? And if so, which ones?

I am specifically interested in the automated payments functionality of this forum, where people can pay for and be granted access to the War Room without any administrator input / validation. this is a pretty cool workflow.

Any insights are appreciated.

Spudnick

  • Ya, I'm about 99.99999% sure a lot of what you see here was custom written scripts.
  • go and have a look in the off topic forum, vbulletin has a post / support there, you can also go the vbulletin site and grab a test run of the forum for a day or so.

the private / paid forum i think is part of the base / if not also visit vbulletin.org i think its called as they have a host of add on stuff there.
  • Hey spudnick,

vBulletin is a very customizable software. It has the largest database of custom plugins you can utilize for your forum. Just visit vBulletin.org

Most of the plugins you see at WF are all free plugins. I've seen all the plugins you listed on vBulletin.org
  • vbSEO is one...
  • I am pretty sure Jason Fladlien designed the fly in plug in

    • I've actually seen this plugin before somewhere. Though, I'm unsure if it's a vBulletin plugin per say.
  • Note that i'm pretty sure WF uses pre VB 4.x (i.e., a version 3.xxx). Not all plugins/scripts work on all the versions.

    For instance:

When I picked up VB 4.xxx for a forum earlier this year, there was no script/plugin publicly available that allowed WF's use of the bumping/paid feature of the WSO subforum. You could find it for VB 3.xxxx, but not 4.xxx.

    • Yes, vBulletin 3.8.6 is being used for this this forum.

vBulletin 4 is still new and many developers are still developing plugins for it. Though, I think it's easier to customized compared to vB 3. You just need to get used to the new stylevars.

  • The existence of paid forum areas is part of the core vBulletin code.

Most functionality outside of that is custom scripting - paid threads (e.g. WSOs or Classifieds), "bump" functionality on the order of what the WSO forum does, etc. The "turned corner" ad was designed by Jason Fladlien as I recall.
