How to find out the number of visitors to other people website

Just wonder how do you normally find out the traffic or number of visitors to other people website? The reason I ask is that I want to verify what other people claim about the traffic volume to their websites is true.

Seems like they both giving different results. And I check my own site using these 2, and they are different from my google analytic results.

You can't obtain reliable traffic stats because the data is private.

Both those sites use Alexa for estimating traffic but Alexa's data only comes from people who have their toolbar installed ie a small subset of internet users. Alexa rankings can also be very easily spoofed and should be taken with a pinch of salt.

If your question refers to doing due diligence on a site you are looking to buy then you'll need to ask them for a copy of their server stats or google analytics / statcounter stats. Preferably a source which discloses IP addresses, user agents, the time of browsing and whether javascript was enabled or not (so you can search for signs of spoofing). Then as a final check compare it to Alexa's data to see if there is any consistency.

That's an estimation as I think any website calculator can exactly give the number of visits/day.

Did you try to update data ?

I don't think (at least in my knowledge) there is no such tool which can help u in finding traffic or number of visitors.
The best you can do is check their SERP's for their major k/w's. Yes, people can inflate their (i.e making 20 to 22) data but not up to an exorbitant amount.

I don't think so that there is any such tool that will give you exact number of visits of others' websites. For some traffic comparisons like traffic through keywords, traffic from countries you can use alexa tool.

I don't believe the tool you are looking for exists because the information is not publicly accessible.

Any tools that are out there will be giving you an estimate based on their ranking position, inbound links etc.

If it is a company you want to do business with ask for a print out of their results.

But anywho, high traffic does not necessarily mean good traffic. So even if they do get a gazillion visits a day they may not be worth a punt.

      True, it's also about quality.

Some services (Like FOLLOW) can actually show you the traffic source.

Traffic source, as probably a much more helpful metric

You might also want to check out compete.com, but I agree with Sandgrown, you can only really get rough estimates unless you ask for proof of stats.

You never get similar results, I even use different trackers on my own WP sites and get different results, certainly different from analytics.

I use cubestat.com but it doesn't give accurate google link metrics.

Most the time is says zero for anything google related except that is not the case.

check out this cool tool for site metrics

Open Site Explorer: Link Popularity & Backlink Analysis Tool

i really like how it gives you the number total sites that link to that site.

I like yahoo site explorer but you can get thousands of backlinks listed and they can
be coming from the same site. this skews the numbers i believe as it's important to have links coming from unique ip's.

Let me know what you think.

Every time that I have tried one of those tools, I have asked it to estimate traffic on a site that I own. It was always way off the mark - their guess was either extremely low or extremely high.

Alexa give a rough estimate. Not exact but rough details. In addition, the source code can provide some good information about meta tags and keywords.

  • The best thing to do would be to use 3 - 5 of these services...

and then average them out, to get an average amount..

    I recommend..

    WebsiteOutlook.com
    trafficestimate.com
    statshow.com/

Test these, and others (And get averages )

What ever tools you try to use, they will never give you accurate stats.

If you want to know the exact numbers, only the website owner will know that.

Even if you do try to find out the exact numbers, the person who sells you that they are getting a lot of traffic may even get bogus traffic just to show they they have a lot of traffic coming in.

There are services out there which you can get 10,000-30,000 "robot" visitors to your site. This type of traffic is not real.

Beware of Alexa Site info data....

    It can easily be faked.

In fact, Alexa 'boosting' services is a common blackhat service.

Well, here (Alexa Rank ? A Thorough Examination :: netberry.co.uk) is described a way to make a traffic estimation based on the alexa rank. Basically, the author has offered an exponential function, not linear or polynomial.

There is also a web service which aggregated alexa ranks + real data and made the calculations. (Google rank2traffic)

I checked it, and for 80% of the websites the results are very satisfying. Still, there is 20% of (possibly, manipulated by webmasters) incorrect data (the estimated traffic is much higher than in reality)
