Repeat Billing Issues...anyone else have problems?

Hey folks,

I run a subscription site where members pay every 3 months.

I'm starting to run into problems in that by the 2nd or 3rd payment, a lot of transactions are being declined. (Customer has not unsubscribed manually)

I talked with online help from my credit card processor and they said something about quite a few credit card companies not allowing the card to be billed repeatedly.

Does anyone know anything about this? Anyone had this problem? Found out fixes etc?

    Not heard anything regarding this.

    I have dozens of things I'm billed for each month on my cards (visa, mastercard etc) and no problems.

      This seems strange to me, I have one or two subscriptions to my credit card, but many through third party payment processors such as PayPal and never a problem.

      The problem may be with your payment processor, as I don't know of many credit card companies that don't allow regular billing - after all, it's money in the bank for them.

      I talked with online help from my credit card processor and they said something about quite a few credit card companies not allowing the card to be billed repeatedly.
      Contact them again and ask them for a list of all of those 'quite a few credit card companies not allowing the card to be billed repeatedly' then try and contact those companies to get their perspective on this.

      When you've done this, you will either have a list of credit cards to avoid - or the task of finding and integrating a new payment processor.

      Just my thoughts,

    A lot of merchant accounts have grown squeamish about recurring billing... They want to know all the details.

    Thanks for the advice folks.

    We're using auth.net, but they're assuring me it's a problem on the clients credit card side. Seems weird as it's almost always happening after 2 or 3 billings.

    I'll do a little more research here.

    I was reading somewhere on the internet the other day that many credit cards are running away from membership type reoccurring billing. I guess they have been receiving too many complaints and charge-backs?

    Might be time to do some thorough research to see who is going to pickup the slack besides PayPal.
