Examples of effective blogs layouts

Would like to know if anyone tested any layouts that has worked well for them.

For example, I've seen many blogs where there are 3 columns at the top, one for subscribing to the newsletter, and 2 more for showcasing products. Does this type of layout work better than normal?

Some blogs have a front page listing out services and a link to the blog posts. Is it better to show the blog posts at the front page to attract visitors and for good SEO practice?

Appreciate if you can shed some light on one of your blogs that is converting well (e.g sign up + sales + commenting on blogs).

Thanks.

  • To be honest, that really depends on what you want to accomplish with your blog.
Do you need a landing page for PPC? That would certainly have to look different than your magazine layout (3 columns, showcasing stuff etc.).
Landing pages for that matter need to be above the fold, with few distractions as possible (so preferably 1 column, 2 max) etc.

If you just want to have a flash looking blog, go with the magazine layout. As for commenting, I don't think it matters how many columns your blog has or what frontpage it uses.
