Is there a way to REALLY track conversions when your an affiliate?

Ok I'm having a major problem here. I am using google analytics but there isnt REALLY a way to track when i make a conversion is there? I am promoting an affilaite product that has no customer support so i cant put a script on any order page or anything.

How do i know where to concentrate my time?

I can tell where they're coming from but theres no way for me to actually know if they convert.

How do you guys get around this?

Many affiliate networks will let you add a tracking code so that you can see which of your campaigns are resulting in sales.

I know Clickbank has their ?tid paramter, and I know that Commission Junction and ShareASale both have tracking ID parameters in place as well.

Look into Prosper202 (free) or xtremetracking if it's still around.

Every major network allows you to append a sub ID of some kind, which will pass through with conversions.

So when you set up your links, you'll have subID#1 for traffic source #1, subID#2 for traffic source #2, ect.

When you check your conversions you can see the subID's that convert. It varies by network, so I'd ask your affiliate manager depending on what you're promoting.

Yeah but lets say i have an article and i put in www.example.com/tracking1 link to track it. they click on that link and go to my main site. They are sold on the product so they scroll to the bottom and click my affilaite link. That affilaite link WITHOUT the tracking is what they will click on and the tracking is lost right?

Any books i can buy on this subject?

    Hey Jake,

Here is an easy way to do this. Get a free acount at Statcounter. Now every time you make a sale on Clickbank look at your analytics page and make note of the time and location.

Go onto Statcounter and click "Recent Visitor Activity". This will show you information about all of your recent visitors. Match up the time and location from Clickbank Analytics to the information on the Statcounter page. This will tell you where your sale came from.

When you are getting 15-20 sales a day this may be a little harder. But 4-5 should be fine.
