Review site or direct link?

Is a review site better for a landing page, or is a direct link to the vendor's sales page better? Can this question even be answered, or is split testing the only way to know?

My sites (I have 2 right now) average 1:60 sales ratio.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

It definitely varies. There's no reason not to try out both, either. Maybe don't even stop there; try out other styles of landing pages, too (like the long, single column ones).

depending on the traffic. but most times the traffic needs to get introduced before the get hit with the sales page. so a review site would be good.

but before i do a direct linking campiagn i usually start off driving the traffic through a squeeze page 1st.

IMO this should be the other way round... test with direct linking if you have to, but ultimately get a review page / squeeze page / blog... this way you are building a business and if you can start ranking in google you will get sales after you stop working, if you can develop a list then you will be able to make sales over and over again... but if you only ever direct link then once you stop working you will stop making sales and have to start from scratch again.
