Weekly or monthly payment option for this membership site?

If you would become a member of a site that delivers your content weekly; would you rather be billed monthly like most membership sites or would you like to be billed weekly as you receive your next batch of content? As a customer what would you prefer?

Also if you were a membership site owner what would be the best option for this kind of membership from a business point of view?

I think you should test it yourself...but probably you would get more retention if you bill monthly...the more times I am billed more chances I would stop the membership...

Thanks, but wouldn't you get a lot of people just waiting until they get 3 week's content and then just cancel the membership, claiming a refund, before they get rebilled?

Maybe one could mix up by offering a $9.95 seven day trial and then bill from there?

        What type of content?

Your best bet is to simply make next week's
content add something new to last week. That
way, subscribers are always looking forward to
        whatever is coming next.

secrets2010 is correct. The more times the member sees a billing, the more pestered they feel, and the more inclined they are to click the cancel button.

Ask yourself what you think of every time you see a bill for a non-essential.

I don't think I've ever heard of the cancellation being an issue in that sense. if they sign up for the program and like the content, they'll stay for more than 3 weeks.

From a customer standpoint, I'd get annoyed with making payments each week, and having to remember to keep the money in my paypal account (or whatever). I agree that getting billed every week gives the customer more chances to cancel.

I would go with monthly. Members are use to paying bills monthly and will see getting more value in a 30 day period for their money.

I've actually tested this a couple of times on a couple of different memberships. In the three tests that I ran the attrition rate was higher for weekly payments. But, it is something you will need to test for yourself to see how it goes.

Without revealing exactly what the membership is about, it is delivering special kinds of article packs each week. That is the reason why I considered weekly billing, but I realise that monthly may be a better option.

So what about a 7 day paid trial, before you start getting billed per month?

I'd prefer to be billed monthly rather than every week. I would not join a site that bills every week. The 7 day trial works well, even better when it's for $1

You'll only know the best option for you and your members
by actually testing the different price points and seeing the
      effect on revenue and retention.

The results YOU get will depend upon your target market
and the strength or weakness of what you're offering them.

Another option to consider is billing every two weeks. I've
seen people like Robert Plank and Lance Tamashiro do
membership sites for $47 every two weeks (instead of $97
per month which may sound more expensive to some).

      Ultimately though... TEST.

There's no other way to get the correct answer.

Only the opinion of your paying customers count.

      Period.

I wouldn't join a membership site that asked me to pay weekly. It's too much of a hassle to me. I don't want to think about it every week ... I've got way too much other stuff on my mind.
