How To Write An Industry Report?

I graduated from my school this year. Since I'm very interested in online marketing, so I found a job in an online advertising company. And I have been working in sem department for three weeks now. My manager let me write a certain industry report and give her one week later. But I have no clues how to start. Any suggestions?

    First has anyone ever written a report for that company before? Generally with companies they will give you their previous reports so you know the quality of work that they expect and the format. I think the only person that can assist you correctly with this is someone that has written articles for the company before or of course the boss.... if you ask her if she has a set expectation for the article and she says "Surprise me" or "I leve it up to your creativity" then you need to get into word, look on those report layouts and go nuts.

    A lot of this depends on the company, and they really shouldn't be sending you off blind if they have a house style to follow.

    Now, the most important thing for your point of view, is that you put something together where it's clear you've spent a full working week on it. No cutting corners etc. A lot of these type assignments are designed as much to test your own diligence as because they really want this value of information.

    If there isn't a house style, I'd suggest you spend some of the week coming up with a reasonable template yourself. If you're good at this, you'll probably find you're writing these reports regularly, and so developing a consistency early on will be important. Look for whatever industry reports you can find from other companies to give yourself an idea of what kind of information is needed. Then use those outlines as a basis for a template, which you can then flesh out with the right information every time a similar template is needed.
