First Affiliate Comission

I meant to post this earlier but my wife and I have been working our butts off and it kinda slipped my mind.

We made our first affiliate commission last week! $67 via Commission Junction. It's not much but it's encouraging to know that making money online isn't just theoretical.

The details: We're building decent sized sites (10-20 pages) around specific product niches using what we've learned from the Consumer Wealth System course I bought several months ago. Also, we've tweaked the method a bit based on what I've learned here in the forums and from a couple of friend's products.

Here's to working our butts off for many more months and turning this into something we might actually be able to live off of.

  • Congrats!!! And how long had you been working at this before you made your first sale?

    • Well, the site that earned the commission went live in August with a crappy theme and just a few review posts. We changed to a *much* better theme, started adding a decent amount of content and promoting it (mainly building backlinks) about a month ago.

Well done. I can remember getting my first affiliate sale. It was an awesome feeling. Here's how I did it:

I created an article centered around the keyword "product name review", and submitted it to ezine articles. Then, I created a free blog on blogger.com, and wrote an honest review of the product, plus I offered a free bonus for those who bought through my affiliate link.

To this day, I've made 5 sales spread out over several months. I didn't do anything else to promote it.

I've long since taken done the blog, and the link on my article isn't even live anymore. Despite this, I got a sale anyway one or two months ago. I was rather surprised, lol.

If you were to do the same, you would definitely make money. Suppose you created just one article for each product each day, which linked to a review w/bonus offer on your blog.

If you did this for 30 days, I'd be willing to bet you would see the beginnings of an auto-pilot income.

    • Ha! Thanks for the idea Joshua! I played "affiliate pinball" for six months or so before deciding to really work on one IM strategy. I'll drop your article idea in my "Possibilities" folder and test it out another day.
  • Congratulations - you have tweaked and it worked !!!

Now just do more of the same

    • Congratulations!

Its a funny thing, I remember when I started out I promised my better half that I'd take her out for a steak dinner when I made my first 1000 bucks. The funny thing is that by comparison to my first sale which was for a whopping 45 dollars, hitting the grand mark didn't give me nearly the same buzz.

      Good luck with it.
  • Congrats!

The first sale is always the best
  • good job,

Just think, two sales a day would net you around 40k a year. Depending on where you live that could be pretty good or just enough to get by but it's still pretty good for theoretical internet money.

now get your butt back to work.
  • Well done! It's a great feeling isn't it?
  • Earning the first commission on a sale is a great feeling. It has to be an ever lasting one.

    • Congrats on your first sale! I hope to be able to post a similar story soon!
  • Congrats and now its time to take more promotions of your sites/blogs.

    • Thanks for posting that. I'm hoping I'll get mine this month.
    • I lost my my mind on my first sale.

It proved to me that making money IS possible in a real
business and it's not just pennies on the dollar. Profit
margins are MUCH bigger than operating a traditional biz.

You will make more sales after that and it will become a
"routine". You will still be excited, but not as excited as
your first sale -- so enjoy it now because more are on
      the way.
  • Awesome! Congrats, always like hearing things like this.
  • Congratulations and welcome to the forum! It's always good to hear about the first sale, it is truly something special. I still do doubletakes at the milestones that can be achieved with enough work and some good decisions.
  • Congratulations on making your first sale! I'm still waiting for my first commission, with my site being live for about 3 weeks now. I've also just created a product to sell (went live yesterday), and I can see how, just like with you, with more traffic it'll be easy to scale up from there.

Here's to cheering each other on to high returns!

    • Good job. Stay focused and keep track of what you've done to get that first success. I made my first sale some months ago, but had so many irons in the fire and was spread out so thin, that I didn't track changes and tweaks. Thus, I made my first sale, but couldn't figure out exactly what I did to make it happen.

I'm working now on reeling things in to control what I do and test, so I can really find that "lather, rinse, repeat" system that I can use over and over.

Hey - the first sale really is awesome. Congratulations.
  • Congratulations. Let that first commission be your motivation to work both harder and smarter at setting more of these sites up. What you need to do now is rinse and repeat, and try to refine the process a little more with each new site that you set up!

  • Congratulations! The first one is the hardest as they say, just keep the ball rolling and keep on learning.
  • It is also important to work on your skills and not just buy any product out there. The answer as the say lies within you.
