Thanks for the comment. I'll see if I can answer your question.

My website is kind of like an article directory full of PLR articles; but there's a huge difference. Every article is completely unique. Visitors browse the different niche specific categories on the site; then they pick an article. Every time an article is loaded on the website, a new completely unique version is created.

My visitors are article marketers, bloggers, and website publishers who are looking for unique content to publish for themselves. They find an article they like, then they refresh the web page a few times to get a version of the article they want. Then, they copy the article for their own use (with my permission). Whenever they close their browser, that version of the article disappears forever. So, when my customer publishes the article, it's the only one in existence.

My visitors keep returning because the articles are very well-written and very well researched.

So, I'm curious, how would you monetize that?

BTW, I had a quick look at the site in your signature. Very nice layout! How do you monetize your site. I'm guessing that people opt in to get your free video lesson. Do you have a nice set of follow up emails on autopilot?

Hit the nail on the head! Exactly what I was going to say. Simply charge for it! At the very very least you should be requiring them to register so you can capture their email? You are doing that? right? or are the visitors you talk about 'potential visitors'?

Also, the first thing that came to mind when you said article directory was adsense, but that should be a given? If you need help with your site its cool. If you want to promote your site (maybe offer a membership special) check out the WSO section and the Classifieds Section as well.

I've thought about adsense, but right now, it's pretty clear that 95% of my visitors are marketers, so adsense, which would be based on the context of the articles, probably wouldn't get many clicks.

Also, I've thought about CPA. I'm advertising a couple of IM products on the website, and they've made a little money, in the end, but I think you and Tina are right: I should just charge for the service.

Regarding email addresses, right now I am collecting those. But I haven't figured out exactly what to do with them yet. All I'm doing right now is sending out a weekly email to let all subscribers know what niches have new articles. This is pretty effective in bringing my subscribers back to my website. But I'm not really trying to sell them anything, unless they click on a CPA ad.

Good idea on the WSO and classifieds section. I'll head over there today and post an ad.

I agree with Tina,

Run a membership site but with a twist. Have a free package (Access up to 50 articles at any one time) and a paid package (access to unlimited articles)

Add additional services or clickbank products as upsell.

Tell your visitors that you will close the membership once you got 100 members and raise the price thereafter...This should get alot of people joining.

I would go for a combination of adsense, clickbank, Amazon and CPA. Monitor your stats and see which income streams are worjking for you and adjust accordingly.

This is just my opinion, but i don't think monthly subscription is a good idea, cause it might decrease the number of your visitors. The reason why they keep going back to your site because you give something valuable for free. If you charge monthly subscription, there are lots of that kind of sites out there. For example contentfx, and many more. I think selling clickbank product is the best option, cause there are thousand of IM products at clickbank with really2 high commission.

I use DigitalAccessPass, it is a membership package, that not only does wordpress but html sites as well.

But in this case I dont think it is the best option. It is $150 (last time I checked) but the reason I got it, and I think most do is because it can drip feed content, built in autoresponder and a whole bunch more.

All you need is a password protected area, if I am correct in what you are thinking of doing now.

The only thing DAP has that might be good for you is the "levels" ie Gold has access to certain parts or in your case allotted amounts of article generations, silver has less, bronze has even less etc.

But I am sure there is a cheaper and better option for what you want. But if you want features, features and more features... go with dap

My First Advice is that you could use all of them , the thing is giving good content and sometimes when you want to make money you first thing how to monetize it and then start writing about but with all this type of monetization cpa, affiliate bla bla bla, every content you made for sure could be monetized.

If you are starting a new site first make your visitors feel like you are giving good content so they can trust in you and for sure the money will come very easy.

The service is currently free until I figure out how to monetize it. I'm leaning heavily towards setting up a subscription service based on all the advice from other warriors in this thread, but I haven't decided yet. Also, I have to figure out how I'm going to market the site. I'm thinking I should do a WSO, or maybe I'll purchase a plug on someone's list. I don't know.

I agree with TMG, this does kinda seem like a set up, but...

This seems like a really great idea. With proper marketing you would be able to build a huge following. So many people are looking for unique content. You could offer a free article per day and then offer upgrade memberships for more articles. Of, course you will be creating a huge list that you should have no problems making money with.

And also, we're all here to help each other and to make money so I think you should go ahead and share your URL. That way you can get some honest input. Even if you're just beta testing or plugging, doesn't matter to me.

Personally, I'm really curious.

For everyone in the thread,
I'm very grateful for the input. It seems that most agree that some sort of subscription would be best, so I think that's what I'm going to do. Right now, if you look at the site, you'll see that I have a couple of affiliate IM products advertised, but I haven't set up a subscription service yet. Also, I do have an optin option set up. So, I'm collecting email addresses as per the advice of many of you warriors. Though, I'm not requiring emails for access just yet.

Anyway, for everyone in the thread, please let me know what you think after actually viewing the website. Do you agree that a subscription is the best way to go? Should I go with the paid subscription, thereby losing traffic? Or should I just use an optin to build a list and promote IM products to the list?

Also, what are your thoughts for marketing this new service? How should I go about that? A WSO seems like a good idea if I monetize with a paid subscription. But, let's say I stick with a free service in order to build a list. What would be the best way to promote a free service?

And, to everyone else who has sent me a PM, thanks so much for all the feedback. You've sent some really useful ideas for monetizing the website. Also, I appreciate all the great things you've said about the site. I had no idea it would be such a hit. I guess IMers and publishers really do need this type of service.

You all have convinced me to eventually move to a subscription service, but I think I'll keep the service free for now while I figure out a marketing plan. Which brings me to my next question...

How should I market this website? A WSO maybe? Any tips for that? How about other ideas?

Hey Culpetm, Checked out your site. Looks pretty good. However, I generated a couple of articles and they had grammatical and spelling errors...fyi...I'm a bit of a newbie myself but for what it's worth, I'd have a subscription as well...plus, I tried to look at multiple articles and after 3 the page didn't load back again to view any additional info...hope it works for you!

Hey culpetm, I hate to be pain, but after reading through some articles your site generated, they are very poorly written and in some cases, just don't make much sense. I like your concept, but if the articles aren't usuable upon generation, then they are basically without any real value...I'm very good at writing and proofreading and perhaps I can help. But, you have to clean up these issues to make this site of any value regardless of how you decide to resolve these problems...IMHO

Seems like with the feedback on here there are 2 steps...

1. Get opt-ins ASAP! Tell visitors you will be making it paid service, and will offer a launch deal to those who have signed up early.

2. Don't worry about getting the word out there just yet. Do an internal launch to your own list of opt-ins from 1, and then from that you will have great JV partners from this forum if you can actually deliver.

Word of mouth will build it for you - especially if you have affiliate commissions too

My pleasure Tim.

It's not the list size that counts so much. It's more when you have a killer offer, because I understand you are still getting feedback and developing the membership model.

You can do your internal launch when you have enough value that people will eagerly pay you AND recommend their friends.

Do you have testimonials? Do you have a few 'names' on your list who can recommend you / endorse you?

If you are really serious and have some cash behind you, it might be worth doing a full on product launch with a launch manager (sure you can find some on WF.)

Otherwise a tool like this might be all you need:

Your site seems to sell something. Lots of visitors as what you had mention. So i guess better if you can have something like Paid Subscription and Affiliate Links to earn more additional income. Best of my experience, most of my clients added affiliate links for their sites to earn big commissions. Maybe you can also try that one out.

Yep. I do have a handful of affiliate links on the site. The links are to some pretty good products, so I'll likely keep those when I transition to a paid subscription.

The big question on my mind is: Is the website good enough for a paid subscription? I'm getting lots of visitors right now, but that may be because the site is free. I'm concerned that my web traffic will drop significantly if I switch to a paid service prematurely. And right now my opt in list is really growing. So, I think I may keep the site free for now... unless I get strong feedback suggesting I go ahead and move to a subscription service. I'm interested to see what the feedback is over the next few weeks as folks look at the site and leave their input on this thread.

I'd say decide now what you want to do with with your site first, free or paid. If it's free, how are you going to monotize it NOW? Have a clear goal in mind for the site and put your time and energy in whichever direction you choose.

I think it will be hard to ween free members over to a paid model later. And, you'll have wasted your time and money building a list of free-be seekers. Get them in with a free level, then give them a good reason to upgrade quickly.

There is no right or wrong answer for this question. You have to test the market. Put up $9.99 a month and see the response. If there is a flood of people comiing in at that price, you have underprice your product.

Keep raising till you feel that the response rate is 'just nice', any higher and you wont sell anything... That's the price point you are looking for.

ok I will chime in again. I think I am with the person that said you need a password protect page. Make it a membership site somehow. I think you design needs to be fixed up a bit. I am using firefox and it is not showing properly....unless I am not doing something right...dunno.
