OK so I'm running a blog and I have comments enabled. It uses Recaptcha but still getting tons of comments. I'm wondering if there is any value to allowing comments at all.

You can always make links in your comments nofollow.

There is a real value in having regular (real) commenting on your blog: activity on your website.

If you have traffic to your site you have a great opportunity to start a conversation in your niche - you're a huge step away from so many bloggers who work hard to post consistently to an empty blog...

      So allow your comments.

And keep your eye on them, because there will always be a leach in there.

      Hope that helps

I disagree with JOS3 re making your blog "nofollow". If people are kind enough to take the time and acknowledge your work by visiting your site and subsequently leaving a comment, making it "nofollow" is kinda like sticking your middle finger up at them. I don't appreciate nofollow blogs and if I know it is nofolllow I will steer clear from it. I am not going to comment on someone's blog if they don't give me the courtesy of giving me something in return (ie a backlink) for adding value to their site by visiting it and contributing my opinion or thoughts on a particular post. I am all in agreement re denying spammers, but I have read enough to know from my own perspective that having a nofollow blog is counterproductive. However it is ultimately your choice.
