The other day I found a familiar (to me, at least,) well-known writing team that was offering PLR. Supposedly their PLR offerings were from decently paid American, English as a first language, writers.

I'm not mentioning names, and am asking here because I have NEVER seen any of these people here on WF, or any advertisements for them. I don't believe any of them are members, but am still NOT mentioning any names.

The sales page had loads of hype about how good they are, how great the article packages are for sale, and some free sets for download to sample them.

Since writing PLR interests me as a possible source to increase my earnings, I downloaded the free PLR to see just what is being offered and has likely been sold in the past.

Surprise! I'm totally astonished at the crappy quality. Spelling errors, grammar errors, sentence structure and lots more was, overall at best, a D+ or C- grade in my estimation. My high school English teacher would not have given a decent grade on that kind of work.

I did not expect the PLR to be superb and tightly written as that could look totally out of place copied into many websites.

If you buy PLR, would you please give me your opinions on what kind of quality you expect?

Quality
Length
Price, do you pay more for higher quality
Amount of articles per pack
Any other specifics important to you
Do you spin these articles to make them more unique
What do you want these PLR packs to do for your business -- single keyword with LSI

Thank you so much for the help. I really need to get a handle on this for future reference.

I buy and sell PLR, and I ghostwrite. When I buy, I expect a lot, and for that I'm willing to pay a premium price. I expect that the writer speaks English, that the articles are free from spelling and grammar errors, that they make sense, and that the facts are correct.

Typically, I pay $12 per pack of 10 articles (around 500 words each), and up to $30 for an eBook, depending on length. I've never found a spinner I like, but I do rewrite and reformat every piece of PLR I use. I never just copy and paste it anywhere.

Thanks Cindy, that's helpful. Decent quality was something that I thought should be a pre-requisite, at the very least.

How long should the ebook be for that price? Are different topics different prices?

The prices you mentioned...are those expected here on WF or just from a website you find where you like their articles?

Anybody else, please, I really want a lot of opinions to help me decide if this is something I would do.

I agree with Cindy - for high quality PLR that's being sold in limited quantities, I'd expect to pay $1-1.50 per article. The size of the pack isn't really important to me, as long as the price is commensurate with the number of articles. If someone is charging that price, I'd expect at minimum to have articles that contain proper spelling and grammar, and at least 400 words.

I sell PLR - yes it is written by me and I'm an English speaker and I also buy PLR for my own use on my own websites.

When I am buying PLR I usually look around the $1 per article price range as this is usually good quality. Having said that there are a lot of good quality PLR that sells for around 60 cents an article too.

I think if you find a good PLR source that you know is good quality, then keep using them. I guess the problem there is that they might not keep up with your demand if they don't supply a large range of articles in the niche you're after.

Not all good quality plr writers limit numbers sold but I do prefer those sold to a limited number of people, it just cuts down the number you find around the internet and I think that increases value. But if you are going to buy plr with limited numbers sold you will also want to check their PLR license. If they are selling limited PLR but allowing buyers to give it away or sell it themselves, then it isn't really limited in my opinion. Limited PLR should only be allowed to be resold if it is rewritten.

I never spin articles I only rewrite by hand - I hate article spinners!

Have you considered emailing or otherwise contacting the writing team and letting them know your thoughts? Chances are if they are reputable they will give you a fresh bath and/or refund you. Personally I sell my PLR $1 per page. I expect plr to well written, informative, and universal. I want the plr to cover all topics of that little niche. I what it so I can rewrite and post. I want it without personal stories, sentiments, or personal sounding examples so that I can add in my own voice. I really commend you for not mentioning names it shows your personality. I would think that respect alone would be worth a complete refund.

Personally, I am usually looking to use PLR articles as a source of content for something other than actual articles or websites. I mainly use them to make my own ebooks and as daily content for newsletters (especially for a niche site that I might not know much about).

PLR quality does vary widely and I think there's different expectations from each different person that buys PLR content. Low quality PLR isn't always a bad thing, because you usually get the facts right and end up rewriting the articles yourself anyways. For people that just want to copy and paste, you'll probably end up being a bit more picky about your PLR quality.

I do think a lot of foreign people/companies are into the PLR game, which is why we end up with the articles that have bad spelling and grammar. I can't stand it when you get an article or ebook like that and it tells you in the license you can't make any modifications. That would be my luck - get sued for correcting spelling and grammar errors, lol.

    Hey AprilCT

Have you considered writing articles/web content/blog posts as a freelance writer? I was also looking for another income stream to help build my IM business and ended up turning to freelance writing. I use Elance and I get paid $10-15 for a 500 word article.

You should consider that option if you are passionate about writing!

    Edit:
Okay, now I am beginning to see the long-term benefit of selling PLR articles. For some reason I always assumed these packs were limited to +/-10, but now I understand that the limits are set in the hundreds. Wow, the potential is unlimited.

All the best in this endeavor!

Thank you all for your perspectives, this is very helpful.

Sheryl, your point about the license will be well taken, and a point to be stressed.

cntimgr!, no I won't be contacting them. These were free downloads, so they don't owe me anything. They probably won't be competing for the same kind of customer, so they won't be a competitor. As for vetting each article themselves before a sale, um...someone's been sleeping at their computer.

I really do try not to badmouth others, maybe I'm getting a little better at that.

Eleva8 - yes, thank you, I can write and make money from that.

At this point in my life, the idea is to work smarter, and earn more, hence consideration of whether or not I want to do PLR, and can I handle it in addition to the other things I want to do. So many choices to make.

I just need plenty of information and input from the Warriors here.

Please keep the comments coming, it is a big help.

Thank you all so much. I'm hoping for a few more people who are (or are also) buyers of PLR to express their opinions before I print this thread for my referral notes.

If you are thinking about starting your own PLR business then you might want to get Tiffany Dow's PLRATM product which is an ebook about how to set up a PLR business. It's quite good, I had already started my business before PLRATM was released but I still got it to see if there was anything that could help me improve my business. So if you can afford it that might be something to consider.

Thanks for the reminder, I think I have that one. I try to read her posts too.

For right now, though, PLR buyer's perspectives (even though you are also a creator too,) is what I need to read as well.

Ohhhhh, another thing I forgot to ask. I know a WSO costs $40, but how much does it cost to bump your own thread?

        It costs $40 again.

        In regards to the PLR
: You were lucky they were not clever enough with their hype to offer free samples.

I find the excuse "English is not his/her first language" quite lame, because it should be a matter of professional pride to give an additional effort to your customers.

Unfortunately, if you're going to work with PLR articles, you need to find yourself a few names that are capable of delivering something I call "anti-crap".

The good news is that you already understood how to approach this - the free sample tells everything and if it isn't provided, just go away

I am a seller of PLR too but I'll let you know what I look for from a buyer perspective:

    - For most PLR I buy I get it around $0.60-$1.50 per article. For this I expect good quality.
    - Occasionally I buy bulk packs far cheaper but the quality isn't expected to be as good. This is more for "ideas" and I'll rewrite and add to it a LOT more than the higher quality PLR.
    - Not too bothered about the size of packs - I buy packs from 5 articles up to 50 articles. Depends, I suppose, on my project.
    - I generally expect 400+ words (though I'd rather an article was shorter and NOT full of fluff than double the length and really full of fluff)
    - I am not too bothered about limited copies because I rewrite it anyway. But if it's a "hot product" limited copies might be useful.

As a bonus I personally like it when PLR is formatted nicely but of course my definition of formatted nicely probably differs from others. But I like articles to be broken into subheadings to make them more readable, and to make sure there are proper line breaks so I can copy and paste (sometimes word documents don't have proper line breaks when you copy and paste into a text editor) - I'm getting a bit specific here lol - ultimately I still buy PLR that isn't formatted like this.

PLR has been given a bad name by some people, but it isn't too hard to stand above that once you get your name out there a little.

Another chime-in here from a PLR writer and PLR user...

I second what Sheryl and Ruth have said about what they expect from PLR they purchase.

Many of us who use PLR tend to stick with our favorite PLR writers because we know we're getting a sure thing when we purchase. So what that means to you, if you choose to become a PLR writer, is to always offer high quality articles. Then you'll build up your clientele and your brand. It appears just from reading your thread that you know how to write.

      Hi April!
First of all PLR is a terrific money making opportunity!
Me too, i buy and sell PLR!
I always expect high quality, but also good quality not necessarily too high!
I always ask for native english speakers,i expect articles free of errors(grammar and punctuation) with useful content!
In general i pay $15 for a pack with 14 PLR articles of 300/400 words.
I suggest you not using a spinner because you can easily rewrite them by yourself!
You can find many tutorials on youtube on how to rewrite PLR articles!
It's an easy procedure! Trust me!

      Best of luck!

    Hi,
I am a PLR buyer and supplier.
When I started buying PLR I looked for very high quality and stuck with those suppliers.
I generally look for articles that are 450 words or more.
I will pay a higher price for quality PLR. In my mind, you get what you pay for when it comes to PLR. Pricing varies but per article it's usually around $1 per article.
Packs come in various amounts. Some are in quantities of 5, 10, 15, 20, right up to 52 so you have an article every week of the year.
I do not spin my articles. I found a good article re writer that I trust.
I do not worry about keywords so much in the PLR that I purchase cause I like to choose my own keywords that I want to target.
I do use keywords in the PLR that I sell because it is an extra that my customers appreciate.
    Hope this helps.
