Ranked on 35 Keywords one day after our URL was Indexed...

We recently launched a social media website a month or two ago and the day after our URL was Indexed we were already ranked on 35+ Keywords, most on the first page in the first few spots and the others on the second page. A few months later we are now ranked on the major one word keywords we really wanted on the first page. Our ranking keeps moving up as well which is great. the point of this post isnt to brag but to make a point. The website has not one minute of On-Site SEO work done, The only thing we did was hire about 17 people on ODesk and get them to heavily backlink our website using anchor text on the keywords we wanted to get ranked on. They did this two weeks before we were indexed so we essentially got ranked on all these great keywords with just two weeks worth of work. I think now that the most important aspect of an SEO Campaign is Backlinks and thousands of them. Most of our links are High PR, Relevant links but we also have a lot of diversity as well. Let me know youre thoughts as to how you think this happened and what if any negatives you can think may happen. Thanks

Yeah I think i heard that as well lol, Its working though. It only cost us about $3500 which isnt a bad investment as we are now getting tons of traffic from it. Im using the same tactic on other sites as well now and its working like a charm!

Are the keywords competitive and do they attract the targeted visitors?

Interesting. You hear all the time that it doesn't matter how many backlinks you get but it's it's the quality that matters. To get thousands of backlinks did you mainly go after quantity of backlinks or did you go after quality also?

We set specific guidelines regarding relevancy of websites to backlink to and the specific keywords to include in the anchor text. We controlled it as much as we could but im sure a few thousand links arent relevant but they are still on PR Rated sites and i read in Googles guide that variation wasnt such a bad thing at all. Hope that helps.
