Hello Warriors, this is my first post here.

What I don't quite get is this:

i. What is the difference between 'entering the market' and 'entering a niche' or 'creating a niche' ?

ii. Why is the latter a better option for the new guy? (poker affiliate)

iii. For instance if I wanted to make a website about "online poker tells" - is this a niche? Do I stand a chance to get vital traffic ?

iv. Suppose I have 300 articles as follow: 30 x 10; as in 30 articles for 10 different topics (no-deposit bonuses, how to play versus different types of players, heads-up no limit holdem cash strategy etc). Are those topics niches ? And if so, why is it imperative (as many are stating) to start with a small niche first ?

I hope I asked all the right questions in a clear manner. Thanks in advance.

A niche is the subset of a market.

    Poker is a market.
Texas holdem is a niche in the poker market.
Online poker is a niche in the poker market.

So... the difference between "entering a market" and "entering a niche" is dependent
on the people you're targeting and their interests.

Entering the poker market would mean you'd target the entire market, while entering
a niche within the poker market would mean you'd target only those people interested
in that specific topic (how to play texas holdem, online poker rooms, etc).

"Creating a niche" or "Creating a market" would mean that you'd target an entirely new
niche or market, one that didn't previously exist.

An example of someone "creating a niche or market" is this site:

    Text Your Wife Into Bed

The idea of sending text messages to your wife and motivating her to have sex with you
wasn't really a recognized niche within the relationship market until this offer was released.

I wouldn't say that it is.

Although the above example has done well from what I've heard, it's the exception to the
    rule rather than the norm.

Plus, it's success has a lot to do with the ways he's generating income from the site.

Instead of targeting keywords that are typed into a search engine, the site owner offers a
commission to others who will drive traffic for him.

If you know the poker market really well and have an offer or site that can fill a void, it
would be a good idea... but if not, I wouldn't suggest it (especially if this is going to be
your first venture). Meaning I wouldn't suggest you try to create a niche.

The way he's generating income from the site isn't the issue... I think it would be far easier
to offer an information product than try to target keywords typed into a search engine.

Yes, online poker tells is a niche within the poker market.

The answer to your traffic question depends on what you're going to do with the "online
    poker tells" site.

How are you going to drive traffic to the site? How are you going to monetize the site?

If you're going to have articles on the site with links and banners to online poker rooms,
you need to do some keyword research to figure out how much traffic you could get.

If you're going to sell the content through a video or ebook and offer a commission to
those who drive traffic to you... that's their concern.

Same goes if you use other traffic sources or ways to generate income. It depends.

Yes, they are all niches within the poker market.

Don't get hung up on trying to define a niche versus market. To be honest, the poker
market is really just a niche within the gambling market and the casino market and the
casino market is really just a niche within the gambling market.

The real crux the the last question you asked... why it's imperative to start with a small
    niche first.

When trying to get natural search traffic to your site, it's easier to rank in the first 10
results if there aren't as many competing sites.

In most cases, there aren't as many competing sites when there aren't as many people
searching for a keyword... hence the idea to start with a small niche first.

As for how small is small and how big is big when it comes to a niche?

There are many different ways to answer that question, which is why I think it best to
focus on the information product model.

    Hope that helps.
