As I recall, PRweb.com has something out on this where they recommend 1 keyword per 100 words. See their site for more on that.

Most of my nich sites are wallpaper sites, so no articles. This is why I am stumped.

Not sure what you mean, combined with the original post above. If you post a link or two, that may help, along with any other details about the plans you have in mind for the site(s).

    Hmmm.

    Taking a guess here.
Do you mean how many keywords to target per page?
    Then the answer is..... 1

I'd say focus on 1 keyword per page, and don't stuff the page with that keyword. Keyword density is important, perhaps 2-5%.

What I meant by the post above is most of my network is wallpaper sites. They place well for the domain name because it's keyword rich, how ever I want to try to improve the placement for other keywords and I wanted to know how many is to many? I am using long key words with little competition so I hope this helps. Most of them actualy have 3 words in them. I have close to 80 right now.... I just don't know how many is to many.

example: this is my keyword, this is my keyword, and so on

I usually stick to 5%-6% on keyword density.

    Seems to work for me.

That would be great for me but I don't have a text based site, the only thing Google see's that I notice is the name of the wallpaper. I have the ability to add key words to each and every wallpaper page, do you really think that would pay off for me. That's a hell of a a lot of work. Right now I place #1 to #3 bounces around for the main keyword and I average 35K unique a month. I would like to see better numbers.

The more keywords you add to a specific page the harder it will be to rank for any particular one. I would say create another page with whatever keyword your wanting to rank for and have it only on that page.

      1 Per page?

IMO, that would be pointless, google would not be able to fidn the predominant keyword to rank.

I think they mean use one keyword on that page, not use it once

You can rank for keywords, without having the keyword any place on the website, it just takes a lot more work.

I don't know why everyone says 1 keyword

I always start with 4 or 5 keywords per page, if and when I rank well for those keywords, then I add more on that page and try ranking for those as well.

I usually end up ranking well for at least 3 of those within a short time. It's not very hard if you promote 2 keywords in each article you write.

The more keywords, the more times your pages will show in google index, just take the time to promote the keywords you have first before adding more.

That being said, I usually pick one keyword (the one with the most searches relevant to my page) and promote that one more than any other so it becomes prominent in Googles eyes. But you can rank for as many as you want over time, the more the better.

I hardly find that true, I have 7 keywords for my main page on one site. I promote them all but promote 1 more than the others. I went from page 79 in Google to page 18 in less than 2 weeks, and 1 week later I am now on page 2 and still climbing.

In case your thinking these keywords are not very popular, they are "Ping Golf Clubs". I was told it would take 6 months to rank for these words. But did very little work and am ranking well, and fast.

I used a RSSbot and promoted feed, submitted to some web directories manually (about 10) and wrote 2 articles and manually submitted to top 10 sites, that's it, and that's how easy it can be.
