How To Build Reputation On Facebook And Twitter From Scratch?

Okay now let's say that i have tried one health product and i am happy with results. I chose to be affiliate, registered domain name, written review. Now i want to get some authority and choose to do so via Facebook and Twitter.

I create profiles on both sites. Now what? I have no friends, no followers. What should i do to make myself noticed on Facebook and Twitter? What are my options?

yeah..and you can always send some friend invitations as well...t may look odd now, with no friends or followers, but come on..new profiles can get easily flooded with people..i don't think it requires a certain strategy...it simply builds up

When it comes to building a presence on Twitter, in a niche subject, there are a couple of really good steps to work at every day.

Find a website that lists people who use twitter, and lists their interests.
Twellow.com is one such directory, there are others.

Now search on these directories using your keywords, like health, or nutrition, or whatever. Then follow these people.

      But don't stop there.

For each person you follow, especially if they have high follower/followed counts, click on the link to see people they follow, and who follow them.
You'll be presented with a page of people, the people who have followed/are following them most recently.

Follow them too. The first five, the first ten, the first page. Most of the time they will follow you back.

About once a week go to Twitter Karma and it will list all the people following you, and that you follow, and will let you sort them into lists of people who only follow you-you don't follow them back and vice-versa.

Follow anyone who you're not currently following but they follow you.

Another list will be those you followed, but they do not follow you back. You can unfollow them individually from this list.

Build slowly, and save your unfollowing to small amounts once a week. Twitter might suspend your account for suspicious activity otherwise.

But by doing this you can pick up about a solid 100 (or more or less, depends on you) each week. Before you know it you have thousands of interested followers.

The problem is that most likely they really
won't be interested. They just follow you
because you follow them. Doesn't look like
        interest to me.

Another problem is that months later, most
of these followers will be "dead" as people
abandon their twitter accounts once they
        realize how much twitter sucks.

        Facebook all the way.

Just like with any method, you have to cultivate a relationship.
I could say the same thing about Facebook, who is anybody kidding, you think all these people are your friends? You think they're going to buy from you? All most of them want is you to return the gift of a brown cow, or help them with a MafiaWars hit.

    Sardent,

Thanks for the link to Twitter Karma. Was looking for a 'free' way to get rid of those I followed, but they did not follow me after a few weeks. Nice!

Twitter sucks, but I like Facebook. I'm told that you can build links with Twitter so perhaps I don't know the true value, but for now I don't like it.. I just use Facebook for friends and family.

Get involve in facebook groups, and take part in discussions. The more you contribute and provide valuable info, people will start clicking on your profile.

First, you have to get people to like the site. One of the best ways for you to do so is to ask your friends to like your page for. After this, you must also be active in various activities like conference and discussions related to your niche to show how important they are. This will help you get the best number of people to complete your page and may be pocket Venice.

No offense but what made you choose FB and Twitter to promote the product...is FB and Twitter how you found out about it? Are they the best way to reach your target market?

The reason I ask is this situation comes up so much and I'm not sure that everyone gets that Twitter and Facebook are great ways to stay in touch with your target audience but not not be the best way to reach them in the first place...and this is especially true in the health niche as it really depends upon the product you are promoting.

I would suggest that the first thing you need to do on Twitter is to find people in your niche like Sardent says above. I would also add that you need to start tweeting good information immediately so when future followers arrive at your profile they will see valuable content there already.

Imagine arriving at a blog and the only post on the site still says 'Welcome to your Wordpress installation'.

Also, mix the kinds of tweets you are posting. Do balance the amount of tweets with links against tweets without links. If you really must tweet a lot, try doing 1 tweeted link for every 4 or 5 tweets that simply provide useful quick info. Also, link to Amplify.com where tweets can reach 1000 characters.

btw...Twitter does not suck, its the users who suck and the marketers using methods that suck...

Its about relationships and building them with your followers. Ask yourself: How many of my followers do i know who post useful tweets that I have responded to this past month? And how many of my followers sites have i visited?

    hmmm...

Most have not checked DMs since the dawn of their twitter account time, others are just auto following to 1000s of followers and then moaning: hey why no sales...?

Facebook and Twitter work very well for marketing. Just like you should use groups on facebook to create targeted lists, use Twitter lists in the same way.

Think set and forget style strategies, my advice to you, give up on IM, get a 9 to 5 job..

Boris, I take it that the health product you're promoting is something with mass appeal that many people will have an interest in?

If so, you should start with Twitter and look for conversations by people centered around the health topic that you want to target. Follow these people, as well as the followers of authority figures in your health niche. Take the time to visit the profiles and read the Tweets of the people you want to follow so that you are only following high-quality users who are not just affiliates or promoters that tweet product/affiliate links all the time.

Follow a similar procedure in Facebook by requesting to be friends of authority figures in your health niche.

If you do this consistently over several weeks, you should have a list of at least 1000+ targeted people within a few weeks that you can use for the marketing of your affiliate products. Be sure to provide value, don't be constantly selling things to them without establishing a connection first with your messages/tweets.

hear, hear... thats how its done!

      Think Targeted, Think Niche..

Thanks Paul for voicing what i have been preaching many times on WF.

Main points of interest from your post in the second paragraph form a quick twitter marketing strategy, and then its rinse and repeat I would add.

I guess it all comes down to "why should they follow you?". It's true that most people will add you as a friend or follow you back but it doesn't really mean they are interested in what you have to offer. Just like what they say, it's all about quality, not quantity.

Building a network takes time and hard work. Establish yourself as an expert. Post informative articles in your website, join similar groups and offer tips and advice, etc.

    Hope that helps

Choose a group that discusses your interests. since you're interested on the topic, you can discuss things with them and teach them the things that you can. as long as you have it, you're assured of getting results and be regarded as one of the experts in the group.

The best free software for following and unfollowing on twitter and building your account is TweetAttacks free. I don't have enough posts to post the link, but the link is at the bottom of their .com page.

It lets you follow users from other twitter accounts or from search. You can also unfollow that who don't follow you back after your pre-determined time.
