Aren't IMers using podcasts?

I made my first videos a couple of days ago and I already knew that pulling the audio tracks off of them would be easy, so I did.

I hosted them at podbean, then submitted the rss to a bunch of podcast directories yesterday, and I'm seeing them when I search for my keywords today. Some of them have live links to my site.

This is such a simple way to repurpose content, I would think anyone making videos (and I don't know why anyone wouldn't) would be doing this.

About the only problem I see is running out of hosting, podbean is pretty limited.

I have website hosting at hostmonster does anyone know, offhand, if I can serve mp3's from there.

You can serve mp3 from any host. If you start
getting bandwidth problems you might try
    Amazon S3.

    Have you submitted to iTunes?

Agreed. A good content repurposing strategy would be:
    Article -> slide -> slide + voice = video -> podcast

I run Linux. I think there might be a way to access iTunes with Linux, but I'm really just looking for backlinks and I don't think iTunes would help with that.

If your podcasts are good enough, you'll get better than backlinks. You'll get real human listeners. People with interests and credit cards.

Imagine having a bunch of people subscribed to your iTunes podcast, downloading your new content every time they plug in their mp3 players...

        Sounds pretty sweet to me.

not just downloading your podcasts, but also buying your itunes app for their iphones... they make you one automatically when you have a channel.

my brother in law started podcasting and itunes sent him a check brecause people bought the app - he didn't even know he had one!

          he liked the check!

Ask all the questions you want, but in the end they will all be answered by just doing it!... Get to work!

I've never used podcasts, but I've heard good things, and from what you say it seems like you are getting good results as well.

I think I'll have to try this out.

Is anyone actually getting good results though?

If it works then I am 100% in favor, but from the 2-3 people I have talked to about it, they all reported complete failure.

Obviously I am dealing with statistics that are based on far too little information, so I certainly don't take that info too seriously. I have no idea if they were offering value or not, and as most people don't, taking their failure as proof it doesn't work would be silly.

So... Has anyone tried podcasting and been successful? and if so, why do you think it worked for you?

    Cheers,
