I would like to experiment with lower price points for ebook sales on my web site. Right now I'm (primarily) using PayPal to see my ebook. Paypal take 2.9% + a $0.35 cent commission which works out to a big percentage of my book if you go to a lower price to try to increase volume.

Does anyone know of a better way? I'd like to sell my ebook and have razor thin commissions? Is there such an animal?

    Just set your lowest price and then add 50 cents to it. Customers won't care about 50 cents and you won't be "losing" to fees.

      Well, I guess that's a healthy way to look at it - can't argue with you.

      But, still, I would ask if there is anyone that sells low cost volume items at lower commission. It's just a good business question if nothing else...

    You might look in to PayPal Micropayments if each sale is $12 or less. Rates are less than a standard PayPal transaction.

      I talked to PayPal and what they said was that I had to do a lot of sales volume before I could get a business account. I doubt I will ever get that throughput on my site. I can see it happening with my DTP/Kindle version, but not off my web site. Anyway, I will probably call them back and ask about Micropayments just to see if the first guy missed something so thx...

    Why not experiment with higher price points instead? I'm serious... then your concerns with the fees vanishes into thin air.

      I have and it believe I have it at roughly the right point. The reason is that I am slowly establishing myself as an authority in my niche, but in the meantime people are reluctant to spend a lot of money on someone that doesn't have a few acronyms after his name...

      Also, I'm not totally in this for the money: I actually want the maximum number of my books to go out as I know it will actually help the reader. How's that for altruistic!

        Then why not offer it for free to capture leads and
        then sell them more expensive products on your
        backend?

    Are you trying to build a list or are you trying to make it back on affiliate links in the books?

    Unless you can get the micropayments thing, I think you're probably at the bottom on fees... Paypal has their problems as do others, but they are relatively inexpensive for low-volume vendors.

    Consider George Wright's advice and bump your price just a little to cover the fees.
