I need suggestions to discount/upsell a Membership
I own a music site where we sell digital sheet music to download at very cheap price (average: $7 per item) as well a Membership for $37.75/year to access and download everything free of additional charges (virtualsheetmusic.com).
Now, I'd like to give an up-sell offer to my customers when they purchase a single item for a few bucks (for example: $4.99) to buy a Membership at a discounted rate, by sending them the offer inside the "Thank you" email message after their purchase.
I have tried in the last year to allow them to pay the difference of the full price ($37.75) minus the price they have already paid for the single item(s), but such an offer didn't have much success. I am willing to give them even more discount, but I don't know how to apply such a strategy by considering they have already paid an amount that can vary from $2.99 up to $19.99 and I also don't want to make my Membership appear too cheap... it seems to be a tough issue, looks there is not way to let them buy the Membership if they don't want to even if you offer it for a few bucks!
Here is a snippet of my current offer inside my "Thank you" message:
SPECIAL OFFER FOR YOU: Since you already paid $11.99 for your sheet music today, we offer you the opportunity to join as a Member for ONLY $25.76 (regular price: $37.75). That's a 32% saving! Once you are a Member, you can access and download all our sheet music archives without limit and further charges. But act soon, this offer is going to expire on December 3, 2010. Click the secret link below to enjoy this offer today: --URL to the offer-- or learn more about the Membership and its benefits: --URL to the Membership page--
Thank you in advance to everyone!
Best,
