Using a PLR website--what are the disadvantages?

Do any of you purchase PLR websites already designed with the content and graphics included? If so, do you find there are any disadvantages as long as you rewrite the content and add heaps more? I realize there will be other sites out there with your same graphics, look, etc, but as long as it's a limited release (say 60 or less), is that really a big deal?

    I have bought some in the past and I think the main disadvantage is the one you mentioned - that other people will have the same design. I don't think it's too much of a disadvantage if the sales are limited and if you rewrite the content. I've actually had sites like this rank very well when I chose a good keyword-focused domain name. I do think it's a good way to get a very well designed package for the price - it just takes a little time to make it unique.

    I've never bought a whole PLR site, but what I would probably do is get it up and running first. Start building backlinks or whatever else you're doing to market it, while at the same time go through and systematically rewrite all the content and change out all the graphics. Eventually you'll have a unique site that won't resemble the original at all.

    In other words, use the PLR site as a template on which to build your own site.

    Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Found some nice looking ones for $25 and limited release, and I thought it would be a quick way to have your layout ready to go and get up and running quickly. Might give it a shot--I always majorly expand the value on rewrites, but it would be nice to have even the barebones structure of the articles to transform and build upon. Might not change all the graphics if I do it, but it would certainly help to switch some of them up.

    I suppose it's not much different than buying a premium theme, except even a bit cheaper and a lot more to work with...
