First eBook sale today - vindication!

So I went live with my first eBook yesterday, started running some Google ads, and landed my first sale today. About £4 of ads for a £13 sale - not bad.

I know it's early days, and that that single sale could prove to be an anomaly, but it does inspire hope that I'm on the right track. I'm working on the US version of the book now, which should increase the pool of potential buyers hugely, and will be improving the copy on the website too as well as the Google ad campaign.

Built everything myself, including writing the copy on the website - thanks go to Andy Maslen's book "Write to Sell" for that - and pretty much pulled the price out of thin air - £13. Not sure if it's a good price for an eBook or not.

Anyway - it's great to see that sales can happen, even when you're just starting out with this sort of thing.

Thats a profit of £9, not too bad for your first, I would concerntrate on the higher end market products that are £100+.

This will leave you a higher earning to expense ratio, meaning you will get more profit in pocket.

Do you mean more expensive eBooks, or other products?

Higher expense, with a recurring commission maybe or a product that offers an upsell. Etc, the buyer pays £9 and is then prompted with a £50 offer of upgrade.

Excellent job, dags_87! Congratulations are in order. May it be the first of thousands of copies sold. It's definitely within the realm of possibility.

You might want to look for alternate ways to drive the same kinds of prospects to your sales page - articles, videos, podcasts, blogs and so on. These have longer-term viable at a substantially lower cost.

Once you've confirmed that you've got a winning product, consider an upgraded version that sells at a higher price. Add some extras - a report, checklist, video - anything that offers genuine value to the buyer and you can often get 30%-60% of your buyers opting for the more expensive edition.

Next, look for other things to sell to the same customers. Here's where you can offer them affiliate products as you develop more of your own. The best option is to have a series 4-5 of your own related products, where the value offered in one inspires the buyer to reach for the next one and the next one after that.

You're on your way... now keep going and growing!

Congratulations on your first sale. One easy way of adding value to your first product is to turn it into a video with screencasts of what you're doing on the computer (if applicable). If you find that your first product is well received, then this is probably the very first thing I'd do to quickly enhance its value.

Congratulations on getting a first sale for your own product! Keep it up and think of new ways to get more people / improving your funnel/ etc.

And another point I would add like someone else mentioned, try to think how you can make the product worth more - bonuses, upgrades, etc to enable you to earn more on each sale.

    Congratulations!

You might consider having those people opt-in to a
newsletter first and then presenting them with the book
only after they've inserted their email.

That way, you get to keep the lead.
