Web search position and backlink saturation

Hello all warriors!

Here is a quick question - is there a tool, or which tool is best, for determining a web-site's actual position in a Google search?

Kinda related, but not :-) - how many new backlinks per day is 'too many' from the point of view of SEO?

I don't know much about how many links is good. What I know is make your backlinks as natural as possible.

I don't know what tool you are referring to but try to search on the search engine you want and you will see the actual position.. Just kidding

  Not sure if thats what i want - that gizmo wont work for me anyway for some reason, it just hangs and times out
  
  I often read in these pages "I did so-and-so and my site jumped up 25,035 places in Google search....". My question is - how do you know?

  But this appears to get more complex! That site says that I need a Google API key - when I go through my Google account and look, it says that Google is no longer issuing API keys..
