Crowdsourced Graphics Design Like 99Designs.com?

Hi folks,

Are there any websites out there other than Logo Design, Web Design, Design Contests | 99designs.com

We'll be looking to redesign our website in the very near future, and I love 99Designs.com for letting me pit designers against each other and pick the best submission, rather than working with a specific guy from ground up and wasting a lot of time going back and forth on his proposed designs (and paying a hefty premium on top).

Any ideas?

I haven't used them but I believe that CrowdSpring is similar.

Thanks a bunch! Anyone else know any other sites like that? The cost savings and the ability to only pay for the design you like best are plain extraordinary.

Just be sure that, when you use crowdsourcing sites like Crowdspring, that you are VERY clear in what exactly you want...and manage your project accordingly....

It's not just something you should pay for, post, and allow submissions to come in. You will really want to be very active in directing the creativity and effort of the designers....They will rely on your feedback to get to your desired end product...

Yep; I've worked with 99 designs before, and we got close to 25 different submissions (each containing on average 3-4 variations) for a mere $250 for a logo. Of course, some of the designs were put together by raving lunatics (think red-banner socialist handshakes - for a financial services provider!), but others were incredibly good. It did require consistent feedback on our part and a very clear description of what we wanted, but the end result was well worth it - especially for the price we paid.

Those who choose to be creatives, and work relentlessly for an award that isn't guaranteed, is all apart crowdsourcing.....they *should* know what they are getting into before they agree to do it. If they are REALLY good, their work will stand out.

My last project on Crowdspring, I ended up spending a bit more than I had initially wanted to, but, I was OK with it....I ended up expanding the award to 2 additional awards....because some VERY talented creatives emerged on my project. I ended up really liking the unique approach they all took to their designs, and actually found myself unable to decide on the best logo...

Be weary that that COULD occur, as well....

Just like anything, there are pros and cons to crowdsourcing. Clearly, the system inherently puts the creatives at risk (investing alot of time, only to receive nothing in return).....It is a viable business model however....

Even still, I DO think that project holders should treat the creatives' time with respect....if that means being blatantly honest about a design...so be it. If it sucks...tell them and don't waste their time with changes, especially if you know you won't pick their design.

I do think project holders can, in general, show a greater degree of respect for creatives and their time...

Right , you should never pay creative types for their unique talents. Under pay them and then make them spend additional time out of their day competing for the lower wage... That's what I say; Davinci, Van Gogh, Rembrandt should have all been commissioned under such models.

If they agree to be paid less and work more, why would I want to pay more for someone who works less?

But sure, if there's a designer out there who will produce ten different versions of what he thinks I want, and I choose one, and only pay him for that, then I'd do that.

I try to leave inividual feedback whenever I can - but folks who just put put a recycled non-relevant image without even reading the brief really do test my patience...
