Little Worried, any advice?

Hi Guys

My first post here but I've been lurking a little while, but I'm still a IM newbie anyway I'll get to my questions...

I've recently purchased a product/course (that I won't name) about building niche physical product affiliate sites using wordpress, but there seem to be a few things in the course that are missing/not taught and I'm not sure how important they are anyway here goes, I'm 99% sure the following aren't taught

1. using google analytics on the site
2. creating a Disclaimer page for the FTC
3. No mention of cloaking your affiliate links
4. the course is teaching us to create textbased affiliate links before the page is indexed

The product only came out in the last few weeks, but alot of the videos are from mid to end 2009 from what I can make out, not sure if its outdated or not.

Now I could be worrying about nothing, I'm just not sure how important the above points are for this business model?

any advice guys n gals?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, couldn't quite follow it; you need more context [not that I'm an expert--maybe that's the problem]

I don't think you need to be too worried, but it's good you're asking the questions

    1) Using Google Analytics is useful although you could also use a simple stats plugin in Wordpress. If you want to use Analytics then simply sign up on their site and there are instructions there.

    2) Here's a good page to get a disclaimer - DisclosurePolicy.org: Disclosure Policy, Disclosure Policy Generator (this probably should have been included in the course but it's ok, just add it up as a page on your Wordpress site now).

    3) Some people don't cloak affiliate links. In the case of amazon, sometimes people believe leaving them un-cloaked is better because customers really trust Amazon. When they see the link is an Amazon link they will trust it. But if you want to cloak I recommend this free Wordpress plugin - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pretty-link/

    4) Lots of people put affiliate links up before the site is indexed, you don't need to worry but can test it other ways if you feel like it.

    Hope that helps!
    ~Ruth

Hey Ruth, thank you so much for the quick reply!

It really has given me a bit of confidence in the action I'm taking, its such hard to work out what is and what is not good information, especially since I'm new to all of this

      Thanks again!

No problem Lex - I understand the feeling. That's why it's good to have forums to be able to ask Although it can be hard to keep up with - the "rules" of IM do seem to change often!

Ruth is right that you don't necessarily need to use Google Analytics. Most decent stat packages will give you the information you need.

Just don't get so caught up in analyzing all the stats that you overlook the most important thing, which is providing value to the prospective customers. That's the cake. Everything else is just frosting.
