Traffic from Article Directories

I know that you could get organic traffic if your article is listed on the search engines. But can you still get traffic from your article if it isnt listed on the serps. Is it possible to get traffic from the article directories alone?

I havent started my article marketing yet, but I've heard that ezine articles.com is the top directory.

Don't get me wrong, I have "somewhat" low competition for the keywords im targeting and its possible to get a top 10 ranking.

But on average how much traffic can I get from a directory??

I have not experienced much traffic directly from the directories. But you do get decent backlinks depending on the directory you are using. If you use good keywords you can often get SERP rankings.

You can get alot of traffic from article directories, depending on your headline, your content, your resource/author bio box, and your keywords.

Dean Shainin and Steven Wagenheim both have good posts on how to write effective articles that get lots of views.

I get about 50-60 visitors per month from Ezine Articles so not a huge amount. However, I don't submit that many articles to directories (usually less than 10 per month). I'm submitting a lot more this month so would expect the number of visitors from Ezine Articles to increase.

One thing I have noticed though is that visitors from Ezine Articles seem a lot higher quality. They generally stay on my site for longer, visit more pages and have a lower bounce rate.

I'd guess if you were submitting one or more articles per day you could generate a significant level of traffic just from the articles alone but even if you don't the traffic they provide (in my experience) is high quality. It's definitely worth experimenting and submitting a few articles. Who knows? Maybe for your keywords the articles will generate a lot more traffic.

    It depends....

If you write an article, make no changes to it and submit it to a bunch of different article directories, it will most likely only bring you in some good backlinks.

Now, if you do the above, but rewrite your article each time, then that article would show up in the SE's for every directory you wrote it for, since your article was unique at each directory.

The only other directory besides EZA that I've personally generated traffic from the site itself is ArticlesBase. That's my 2nd choice when it comes to article directories.

    Hope that helps!

I used to submit 3 articles a day to Ezine Articles. It wasn't much, but the 50-60 visitors/day it brought me got the momentum going.

I agree with the posters above. By submitting to the most popular article directories, you will get a steady stream of visitors even without the search engines. If you get into the most viewed category, traffic will remain steady. This has happened to me in a few categories.

I've submitted to article directories a number of times, but I didn't really get that much traffic in my experience using them. Right now I mainly use Isnare.

I think article directories are great for backlinks.
Also agree with the warrior who said to rewrite
each article per directory, but a good fast way
to get backlinks would be writing a content rich
keyword stuffed article, then getting a $30 article
submitter and spending 3 hours a week submitting
articles. It's a great promotional tool and gets your
name out there as a guru of your niche

There are article directories and then there are ezine articles, at least that is the way that I look at it.

I get a lot of traffic from ezinearticles but if I have an article listed in a lot of article directories then I tend to get not much traffic but a lot of backlinks that get noticed and indexed by Google.

    So EzineArticles=Traffic
and lots of article directories=backlinks and higher positioning in Google

Totally not true. I have plenty of subscribers who have found me through non-seo articles in ezine articles. Don't know how they found it on ezine articles but it certainly doesn't seem to be listed in the search engines. (Actually come to think of it they probably found another article through the search engine then saw mine in the related / top articles in that category at the bottom of the article).

A lot of time when they hit the front page you get a sudden surge of traffic as most people just scan the front pages for good articles rather than going deep in any of those directories.

But yea, the main purpose is SEO and backlinks, not visitors. If you just want visitors (or can't be bothered doing keyword research / Making SEO friendly articles) it's far easier to post in forums / comments on other blogs.

      This isn't always true.

What do you mean by your peers? Internet marketers?

It's good for people in the IM niche for example.

Think about all the IM beginners. If you have a correct marketing funnel, many of them will buy from your articles. Of course, you need to build a list.

It's well known that marketers buy from marketers.

With ezinearticles, you can also drive people to your affiliate program (in any niche). You just need to explain to your prospect that they can make a living from their hobby (it's how I started Internet marketing. the product owner send an email to his prospects and buyers telling that they can earn $1000 per week... and the rest is history)!

Many people on the warrior forum make a living selling IM stuff via ezinearticles.

Now, this may be true if you are talking about other niches.

      All the best,

      Franck.

So you will never get very good results from the article directories. That isn't where your prospects are hanging out.

I have experimented with many different article directories over the past few years. The only ones that I have seen significant traffic from are Ezine Articles and California Chronicle.

Depends on the quality of the articles. If you have some good articles, you will get at least 1,000 visitors for each article.

it depends on the directory in my case. I have articles ranked on the serps but alot of my articles bring in traffic right from the directory. some directories dont bring me any so I dont use them anymore but the ones that do bring traffic from within the directory I use religiously

As for the traffic you get from the directory itself, it depends on your niche.

IF there is a lot of competition (like in health or IM niches for example), you will need a LOT of articles to get significant traffic from the directory.

Secret: it's easier to make it on less competitive niches in ezinearticles because in more competitive niches, article marketer are submitting dozens of articles per day... And your visibility is almost unexistant (both in search engines and the article directories) if you don't submit HUNDREDS of articles every single week.

    All the best,
    Franck.
