I'm not sure I understand the question. If you just need a thank you page, set up a page in your WP site. For example, if your domain is wpblog.com, you can set up a page called thank-you, and the URL would be www.wpblog.com/thank-you. Then, use that as your thank you page in PayPal.

It would be a PAGE in WP, not a post. You may want a custom template for the page, if you don't want sidebars and other content that is on a standard page.

Also, if your theme automatically lists pages in the navigation somewhere, you will want to edit the theme to exclude that page so it does not show up in the navigation. Check the WP codex <http://codex.wordpress.org/> for "exclude page" and you should find how to do that.

I hope this answers your question.

Sorta, but isn't there a way to hide it, like on my domain for the site (made a site not really a blog, but 1 post as a sales page). or would domain.com/thankyou be a separate page that people wouldn't see until after they purchase?

the easiest way to do this would be to install a plugin called Exclude Pages. this will give you a check box on the right-hand side of the page screen that will allow you to exclude the page from the navigation menus. So there will be no navigation to the page on your site.

Then you should add the page to your robots.txt to keep the SEs away :
        The Web Robots Pages

or you could just install the plugin Robots Meta and do it all from within the WP interface:

First off, it is NOT your host's job to help you get wordpress functioning the way you want, so don't hold that against them!

The previous poster is correct. It really is that simple.

I would suggest changing your permalink structure first and foremost, so that you get nice attractive URL to the page.

Just go in to Settings > Permalinks and in "custom structure" change it to /%postname%/ or something similar. Here is the codex page on the topic: Using Permalinks « WordPress Codex

After that go in to Pages > New Page, and make your self a page. It will base the permalink off the page's title so if you don't like what it gives you, you can always manually change it by clicking the Change Permalink button right under the title box

That's it. nothing more too it.

  • You can simply make your own HTMl page with thank you contents and update it to your blog server That way the address of the thank you page will be hidden.
Or you can also search for wordpress plugins similar to this:
wordpressprofitsystem.com ( I haven't tried this plugin just found it in google search)

The best thing to do is make a simple HTML page and load it to your server. HOWEVER, you do have to know how to do some simple HTML (or how to borrow a simple thank you page you like and then change it to meet your needs) and you also need to know how to use Filezilla or another program to upload your page to the server.

If that's over your head right now, don't worry about it. Go to your WordPress admin panel (dashboard), go to Plugins and search for "Exclude Pages from Navigation" plugin and install it. Once you install it, on the right hand side of every page or post will be a box called "Exclude Pages" that has only one check box. The box is checked by default. If you do NOT want the page to show in your menu or list of pages, you uncheck the box. I use this one and it works great for me. Good luck!

I think it's b/c I'm not used to wordpress either lol, but I just got an awesome dude at hostgator on live chat that logged in and fixed everything, plus i had a permalink screwed up. I feel bad for being mad at them earlier but i was so frustrated, but now you see the crazy good service they have as this guy fixed everything. Found this plugin called "exclude pages" so it stays hidden unless redirected from paypal, w/o that plug in it left a no title next to home page

edit - lol, thanks guys, had found that plugin right before haha. I feel way less stressed now, more I play with wordpress the easier it gets but I get to these points where I want to bash my head in lol.

yeah, that is why 2 of us recommended you installing that plugin... glad we were able to help. hahaha

If you're going to be doing this IM thing, I suggest taking a little time to acquaint yourself with WP a little better, and learn how to seek out answers and troubleshoot. You will run into more problems, that is for sure. Hostgator is not always going to be able to help you like that. When you run free software like WP, you must rely either your own ability to figure things out, or community support.

There is no wordpress tech support.

My way of getting around all of these hurdle is to use a "product launch style" theme. DLP is one of those I've bought, and will be using for my first ever launch. It can do most of what Kajabi does.

Best of all, it's running on a DEEP DISCOUNT now. That's why I grabbed it up! LOL..

It's easy to create a thank you page using the DLP theme, I am a non tech-savvy person so this just fits right into what I want.

    Hope that helps.

Another plugin I use to protect thank you pages from being indexed is the Ultimate Noindex Nofollow Tool, makes the job quick and easy. I also use the exclude pages plugin the other Warriors have mentioned so the pages don't show in the user menus.
