What Are Your Amazon Conversion Stats?

Hey Warriors!

I'm curious about 2 things IF you want to share:

1.) What are your Amazon conversion stats? If you don't know where this is, log into your associates account and click the Home button. It's over on the right upper corner. Mine's a measly 3.58% right now. I convert way higher with info product reviews, etc.

2.) What tips have you seen to help you increase amazon conversion only?

I generally hover between 7.5 and 8.5%. I don't have any tips (I have no idea what I'm doing!) except that I always link to a specific product - usually with text, though often with a picture to the side (also linked) but I definitely never use a general Amazon link.

I don't know if that will help, but I hope you can take something from it.

Mine is 5.18% right now. Tiffany -- have you noticed yours going up closer to Christmas? That's what mine historically does...it went pretty darn high last year but I can't remember specifics.

I tend to do the huge IPK style picture with super relevant sites/pages to get mine up there.

Hmmm I'm doing both broad keyword articles (where I generally link to a search results page on Amazon) and also specific product reviews where I link to the page of the product.

Yes, it goes up closer to Christmas definitely - but I want it now! LOL

Mine have dropped drastically this month but depending on the site, anything from 1% to about 12%. My overall usually hovers around 4% (skewed by past mistakes) but right now it's closer to 2%.

My +10% sites all have one thing in common. Absolute relevance. That's my only tip.

Mine average out at about 5%. Bit higher at the moment but it is the beginning of the month.

The thing is do you want 10% of a 1,000 or 5% of 10,000.

Amazon affiliates is all about the numbers. I have twenty sites all targeting different niches and sell everything from tea to boats.

The secret is targeting just one area per site rather than trying to be a mega mall.

I used to be a salesperson and I just started Internet Marketing and mine says 15.3%. Not sure if that's right or if I'm doing something special. Nevertheless, Here's what I'm doing.

I find conversion goes up if you can offer customers something that no one else can such as more thorough research instead of flipping the amazon description. I go to the store and take my own pictures of the product instead of using the manufacturer's pictures. This immediately creates trust.

I've tested it with split testing and the best way to close sales though is by linking through Amazon reviews. This is Amazon's salesforce. Say something like Here is someone who didn't like the product. Yes, link to a controversial review. Humans are funny creatures, controversy sells.
Or you could give a snippet of a review that is good that is filled with emotional language and stop it just when it starts to get good. Then say Click this link to read the rest of this review.

In both cases the person will click the link and Amazon's salesforce will gang up and convert them. Make sure you have chosen a highly rated product though. The emotional language creates an impulse buy and the social proof on a higly rated product is sometimes so strong that the customer just clicks buy. Put the customer in buying mode. It's all about psychology. Get inside of your customer. Become your customer.

Just be creative what would it take to close you? Do that and you'll win.

does any one know how do I link to the customer's reviews? I usually send them to the product page and the reviews are on that page, but how do I make them go directly to the section with the reviews?

        thanks

why would you want to do this? you want to be putting the product right in front of them. also most people are familiar enough with amazon to KNOW where they can find reviews...

It's actually quite easy. All you have to do is find the review that you want to link to and look for the permalink at the end of the review. It's right next to the link that says "Report abuse."

Clicking on "Permalink" will take you to the separate review page. From there just use the Amazon Associates bar at the top of the page and select the first option which is "Link to this page" - Get the regular link.

It's all in the testing. You should try it on your top converting page. At least for a week and see if it gives you any better results? If not you can always revert to your previous layout

Now to answer Tiffany, keep in mind this is my first Amazon site which is exactly about a month old now. My conversion rate for last month was 31 visitors to Amazon and 3 conversions. So 6.45% Not bad for an "Amazon newbie" hehe.

This month I'm adding a thorough review for the item that sold twice. To see if that helps push conversions. Also, the site has two pages at the bottom of page 1 on Google, and the 3 remaining ones are around the middle of page 2.

I can't believe it's ranked so well I'll outsource some more backlinks to push the ones on page 1 to the top spots and then I should see a major increase in traffic.

As for tips, I'd say it's all about a minimal layout. Make it so the only links your visitor can click are links/pictures that lead to amazon or keep them on your site looking at the other products.

Another thing that I'm going to try, as mentioned above, is to provide much more in-depth reviews for the products. Right now, the ones I have up I sort of "slapped" together and are about 300 words in length. I'm going to shoot for at least double that word count and I think I'm going to try adding more than 1 image to the post.

Will try to remember to post results later this month

2.- choose products that have good reviews (like 4 stars), and that are on the Amazon's betseller list

Mine is normally around 9% but so far this month I am at 7.5%.

I also link directly to the Amazon product I review. Amazon takes care of that end very good and we need to get that click through to Amazon so maybe others can share their split testing data of how to get the highest ctr to Amazon from our sites. Mine is at around 60-70% not sure if that is good or average. I use text links and no widgets or banners.

      Cheers

Yeah, thanks Jan, I was just going to ask about that. Question to all: What percentage of people that hit your website make it over to Amazon at all?

For me only 10% click through to amazon but 15% who click through buy. Of course it depends on the product. First, make the page bland and have one attractive call to action image. Do not distract the customer with anything else. Since amazon buttons are orange and they do so well I try to use orange. Study Amazon's layout. There is a reason they sell so much.

I use a bunch of different closes cause it's fun to come up with new ones. Here are some of my favorite closes for Christmas.

      The Underpromise Over Deliver Close
Ex. Say something is 27% off on amazon.
Then say click this link to save up to 25%. The customer clicks through and sees they actually save 27%. Customer says I should buy then.

The Limited Quantities on Hand Close
Ex. Save 25% through this link while supplies last
Hurry Quantities at this price may be limited and it could sell out at any minute.

      The Shopping Comparison Close
Show customers that Amazon does indeed have the cheapest price or is the only store that has the item in stock.

      Assumption Buy Close
Throughout your copy assume the customer will buy. Use language like when you buy this you will get blah blah blah.

      The Compare Close
We compared several products and found prouct A performed the best.

      The Honesty Close
Honestly I wouldn't get that because of so and so but I would get . . .

Create urgency in the customer's mind so that they can't wait for tomorrow. Run the promotion for a week and see if conversion rate changes.

It's important to test because for each product a different close works. Taylor the close to the product. Read the amazon reviews to use the right language. Speak the language of customers who bought.

Honestly to me there is no reason someone who typed your product name into google and landed on your website shouldn't buy unless you give them a reason. They are looking for that product. Close them or someone else will.

Products exist to solve problems. Make them feel a deep aching pain if they don't buy. Make them want it so bad. Reach down into that primitive aspect that is in every human. Create need and want where there is no need and want. Make the product become water.

8 - 10% is normal. It should start to edge higher as we approach Christmas and then fall for a couple of weeks.

Tips (in general - but there will always be particular products which break the rules):

Do not use any of the widgets. They might be cool - they might even fit in with the4 look of your site. They do not convert very well. Do not use astores. Conversion rates reek.

    Text links convert well.

An image with a link in a good review (which I think you could just about manage Tiff ) usually do well.

If you are linking to a book (not great but it still gets people to Amazon), download the image of the book which has the "look inside" logo on it. It can help to encourage clicks.

    Even banners will get clicks.

Based upon my own results - plain text links, linked images and banners work best. The first two are great in reviews, which should be right up your street. Avoid widgets like the plague - likewise astores.

    1. My conversion rate is a little over 7%.
    2. I try to add new content (articles, reviews, etc.) at least once per week.

my average conversion rate seems to be 3%-4%

I have noticed that 50% of my visitors click through to amazon. i'm not seeing many sales lately, but google is being cruel with my websites. theoretically, i can guesstimate my sales by how much traffic i get and the average conversion of the past 2 months.
