A coach on the local news (high school football) had some choice comments and I had to laugh thinking they apply just as well to IM as to football.

He said you can't play the game well if you are overly emotional. You have to know what you are doing and do it the best you can every time you play.

Also, that if you want a winning team you need tolerance for personalities other than your own and if you want respect you show respect to other players and other teams.

He said screaming and yelling and throwing tantrums doesn't do anything to help you win - that's it's a game where hard work gets results and big mouths don't.

He was explaining why he disciplined some players "who got a bit carried away with their own importance".

I bet he's a great coach!

  • He is absolutely right. I like the bit about how he said players get carried away with their own self importance. So true here as well in the IM world.
    His words are great and it is great if people apply them and not just pay lip service to them like other platitudes and principles.
  • Sounds like a great coach to me. He keeps his players grounded and humble, and also stresses the importance of being focused so that they don't get distracted by failures and setbacks. It's also great advice for anyone wanting to go full-time in internet marketing!
  • Reminds me of a comedian I heard several years ago... can't remember who now... he did this bit about how he hated when athletes who were the stars of the game were being interviewed and they gave the credit to God.

    He said just once he'd like to see them interview the guy on the other team whose fumble cost his team the game, and how he'd love it if the guy said: "We would have won the game, but Jesus made me fumble."
