What is your SEO software wishlist? What can be improved?
I started to really think about internet marketing (I was almost ready to give up!). Ultimately I want to market an SEO software product that has many useful features(maybe have affiliates too). I'm an ex-programmer/engineer type. I don't know if there is a need for improved software in this area - so I'll throw some ideas here. I know there are some expensive subscription based products that are too much for new marketers.
In the past week I've written an application that is similar to market samurai (some modules) with additional features MS don't have. The program relies on adwords export for the base keywords though, but I could probably write that that part too. Then again it can use kws from MS (that module is free)
I have many more summary fields on the competition screen that help me pick niches. One is average PR/max PR/avg backlinks, etc. The other thing is the ability to run batch competition searches overnight and apply criteria (like ezine articles in top 10, etc). I've found that avg_pr < 1.2 is a very easy rank.
My program also pulls about 25 non-adwords keywords during every competition search. This snowballs during batch runs. Not every found keyword is a gem but something may be uncovered. This is done by analyzing content in the pages. The competition unit runs about about the same speed to a bit slower than MS. (it can be sped up by turning off categories). MS is a nice tool but I don't like that you have to go thru hoops to add keywords for the competition module. Maybe there is an easier way in MS but it didn't really satisfy my needs for bulk competition research.
I can go on with more features(like a competitive backlink checker that pulls high pr forums that keep backlinks)....and lets you sign up on those forums. This helped my site A LOT!
But what I want to know if there are specific needs not being addressed in the available tools. For all I know I'm reinventing the wheel, but these tools helped me find some niches!
They are not exactly polished yet, of course its not worth the effort if there is no need!
