Question On Wordpress Database

Hello and thank you for your time. Ok I have desided to create another new site. However I am doing this site a bit different then any of my others before.

Now my first instention was to create a basic html front page and a few seperate pages. Which I had already placed on the site. I was then going to have a second section that would run the wordpress blog I am going to install. Now since I already had files in place my host install will not allow me to place wordpress as my main site cms any more unless I delete all other files first.

So to save time I decided to copy the wordpress files from the blog section and place on the home page. SO that I can still create all the same pages and have two seperate main sections on the site that will run with each other and not interfere with the other. My question is though can I use the same database for both of these or do I need to create a database for each section and basically start over.

Now stating over really is not an issue since I just bought the domain early this morning after doing some research. So deleting everything out and starting from scratch is not a big deal for the most part. I would however have to delete the blog section and either save all the files and reinstall later. For I know once I delete out wordpress it will no longer allow me to install it to that same directory for some odd reason. Which is not a big deal either cause I can name it something else and then change the name later on.

My main concern at this time though is can I use the same db for both the article section and the main site section or do I need to create a seperate db for both.

Why would simple html files need database?

You can install many WP instances in the same database IF you change the default wp_ table prefix (before running the intall) in the wp-config file for each to something different.

Unfortunately, I don't understand the rest of your posts. If installed mnually, there is no way that a host would let or not let you to install it wherever you want...

No I had an original basic html page installed and I decided later to switch to wordpress. The site is a review site and I had already created the basic html template and installed it. I did not need a database for that the only thing I needed a database for was to install the blog section to run wordpress. It is not so much as the host not letting me install wordpress. It does not allow installing wordpress in a directory that already contains files. You pretty much answered my question though. So I just need to do a few things different then I was going to.

For instance I am still going to use the same db but I need to add an extention on that db inorder for it to work properly. So the problem is solved and I just need to modify the config that they installed and add an extension to the already exsisting db. I was just hoping I would not have to modify something that I had already started. Looks like there is no way around it though. Which is not a big deal since there wasn't really much on the site yet. But I did get the files for wordpress on the main section and have started building that with the wicked review theme and later today after I go out hunting for a little bit to let off some steam I will redo the blog section and chose a theme that will work well with the current installed theme and the site will be up and running.

Sorry it really wasnt too clear it has been a long day trying to get this site up and running waiting for some traffic. That and little cotton tails on the mind hasn't helped much. Any how I got it all figured out and will be getting things up and running fully in the next few hours. Thanks for your input.

In fact you can use the same blog installed in root directory as a website and also an article section

    See this website Target Market

In the top navigation you can see articles in Support

If you would read the post you would see this is not my problem. I am simply asking if I can use the exact same data base to run both my review section and article section. There for being able to install wp on a directory after deleting it is not the problem. I have it all figured out and have begun work on this site.

Now here is the only reason why I asked. First the review site theme I am using has to have its own database because I need to add several post directly for specific niche I am targeting. So since these will be constituted as post just like blogs it has to have a database. The article section also needs a database because this will be the main focal point to gaining content to the site. This will help both increase traffic and content to the main site. Now this also has to have a database because it is also wordpress based.

As I stated in the original post I was hoping I wouldnt have to create an extension to the database so that these 2 sections can run with each other. Now I wanted to use the exact same database and not create another section with in the database since I had already installed wp and created the data base. So I just need to delete the config file out of the originally installed wordpress section and have it point to the new database extension instead of trying to force it to use the exact same database.

It was a database question and had nothing to do with installing wordpress. I have ways around my host not installing things to locations that it says it is already installed. I went though this earlier this year when one of my blogs got hashed and there was not way to fix it. So I had to completely delete everything and reinstall everything. However I was un able to save the database for that site so I had to create a new one. I was able to pull some of the info out of the original db so I did not lose everything. Either way if you would read the question you would see that I wanted to know about the database and not installing wordpress.

It does not allow installing wordpress in a directory that already contains files.
That must be because you are using fantastico or some other automated script. I said: with manual install I put WP wherever I want - not where the host/script permits.

And NO, you do NOT add "extension" to database. Please, learn to read exactly what I write, so that you don't complain here tomorrow that I told you sopmething wrong.

I said, change the database default (wp_) table prefix in the wp-config.php file BEFORE running the installation. And I am always referring to manual installation.
