Can you over monitize your website?

Hey Guys (and Gals)

When building your websites is it best to only monitize it one way such as clickbank,cpa,adsense,amazon...etc or do you use a combination of a different offers to monitize your sites what has worked best for you?

    thats a good question, I think yes, you can over-monetize your website but the problem doesn't stand there. You will just overload your site with ads and you will make visitors go away. I think you can monetize it with adsense+ clickbank easily but more then that, you have to pay attention.

      Thanks thats what I was planning on doing clickbank + adsense but would it be to much to add amazon or should I just use cb+ads

    Something you should also consider is how relevant those ads will be. If they're extremely targeted, you could get away with more ads on your site. If they're only vaguely related, plastering your site with these types of ads will only end up becoming a real turn-off to your visitors.

    You have to be careful that the ads don't obliterate what your site is about and visitors miss the message. You have to balance between the two.

    If your site is a Wordpress blog its easy to add or delete ads in sidebars but in a static website its not so easy and can affect the whole look of a website.

      Take your site and look at it with AdBlock Plus enabled. If it's blank, you've over-monetized

    You should be concerned about the look and feel of the site. If you have so many ads the casual visitor can't tell what the site is about, it's way over-monetized. A visitor should immediately be able to find your content, and read it without the advertisements getting in the way.

    If the message you are trying to convey is one of helpfulness and providing useful content, and the visitor can't find the message, or gets a feeling of being "over-sold-to" it is probably not going to do you much good. As already mentioned, too many ads will just cause the visitor to leave your site...

    You have to look at what makes sense for your website and how much money that method will bring in. Sometimes, the initial method that may make sense, may not bring in enough money.

    A strategy that works well for me is to use highly relevant physical product links within the text of my blog posts from amazon and CJ, and then through my autoresponders I promote the Clickbank-type products.

    Digital products that are high-priced usually require being promoted to the customer a number of times before they'll buy.

      The key is to have a reasonable rate between ads/content, and of course have frequently updated unique content.
