I need help to Monetize 30,000 Pageviews per Month in a Very Specific Niche

Hi Warriors,

I need to solve the following problem: How to monetize a site when Adwords and other affiliate programs are performing so badly?

The solution I have in mind is going down the CPM route but I don't know the service that would be most appropriate for the situation.

About the website:

I am editor of a burgeoning sports publishing platform called World Cricket watch (worldcricketwatch.com) . We have plenty of content and pretty good traffic for the "cricket" niche which is based primarily in Commonwealth countries ie. England, Australia, India, South Africa, West Indies, (Pakistan and Sri Lanka play too). We do have some US readers too.

Any ideas would be much appreciated! Can't wait to hear all your thoughts

Nice site, I like it! Awesome you are following your passion, hope you are able to make it work.

I'm pretty sure there is a WP plugin that shows country specific ads, it may be an idea to look into that? Especially as your site is worldwide.

What about gear, like bats, pads etc, most people who love cricket play at some level.

Tickets? These guys have an affiliate program:

The Ashes Cricket Series Tickets - Buy The Ashes Cricket Series Tickets - Premium The Ashes Cricket Series Tickets

Any affiliate progs for cricket tours? I know the barmy army go a long way to see England play!

Dating? I think I saw a site that dealt with sporting singles. A long shot, but I'm sure there are guys out there who want to hook up with girls into cricket =)

It's getting late but I'll keep thinking, keep up the great work!

I hope you don't think this is rude - but your site doesn't do a lot for me.

It doesn't tell me what it is about and make me want to stay.

Obviously it's about cricket - but that's all I can tell. Utilise the space at the top of the page, beside the logo to tell me who/what you are.

For example: Are you a cricket magazine? Do you report from around the world? Is your aim to provide me with the latest videos? the latest news? the latest analysis? the latest fixture lists? interviews with cricket stars?

In other words - why do you exist?

30k page views = around 100 visitors a day if they read an average of 10 pages. How many return? Visitor retention would be your aim, I would think. You need to make them want to come back with some in-your-face, top-of-the-home-page reasons.

As to how to monetize, I'm with Lesley - cricket related affiliate schemes and kit.

Thanks a lot for your very honest feedback.

So the biggest takeout would be having a tagline with the compelling reasons to come back in the empty space at the top?

Try adding affiliate offers for cricket, or sport offers that are related to cricket. You could also blend in some adsense ads but I'm not sure if you want visitors to click adsense ads and leave your site.

The main problem is that adsense and affiliate programs haven't been performing well so I'd like to explore the CPM route.

      Does anybody have any ideas?
