I would like to redirect my old domain to a new domain so it'll pass all of the link power, authority etc to a new domain, any suggestions on how its done properly? Thank you!

  • You'll need to use google webmaster tools and 301 redirects on the old domain until you see the new domain has picked up where your old site left off. I contemplated doing this for an e-commerce site i've owned for the last 10 years, but the effort involved in getting it done would outweigh the effect i'd have with the new domain name, so i've opted to keep it as is. But if you have a smaller site and the new domain is much better in terms of seo, it might be worth the effort.
  • Thanks but I've got JOOMLA
  • The principle should be the same. As i outlined in my post its basically a 2 step process but will take some time before you can get rid of the old domain and your 301 redirects.
  • JWM2,

I've got a similar problem, but with a twist. The original hosting framework had some recent popularity so I tried it out. Due to some outages I want to move it off the current platform to the new platform. This is not a wordpress platform and I don't have an htaccess file that I can leverage. Are you aware of any other options?
