buying old domain name

Hi guys,
My questions are related to buying two years old domain name.
1. Will I ever will be able to apply for TM protection for a such name?
2. What are the pitfalls related to such transaction?

The domain is for sale for $350 on GoDaddy website ( when you type the domain name in a search bar, you will see the ad that this domain is for sale for $350) and it does make sense for me to buy is since I am in very competitive market and all valuable name are already taken.

    I quite don't understand what you're saying.
    However, I 'll go to "http://www.archive.org/web/web.php"
    and check the history of that domain. Maybe was involved in spamming
    or any other controversial issue.
    2nd. I'll star investigating the possibilities of TM.
    3rd. You don't necessarily have to pay the amount they are asking for.
    Make them an offer. Not Italian style; of course.

    This domain is parked on GoDaddy. The home page has no text and just a banch of links with general offers like: hosting, web design,credit cards, travel tickets,etc.
    So I don't think that the owner did something illigal in the past ( like spamming).
    He/she probably has purchased the domain and parked it with one goal to sell it.
    I also checked archive dot org and there is no history for a this domain.

    Yep it sounds like a domain, someone bought and parked, may or may not be worth $350. Have you checked to see how aged the domain is? If I really wanted the domain, I would definitely make an offer for some amount considerably lower than the asking price just to see if they would bite.

    The domain name is not what ranks or makes you money! It is the SEO you do to the actual SITE and the backlinks that give it and the amount of articles that point to it from other IP addresses...

    I know you have undergone keyword research, but I suggest for you to get a similar domain name to the site worth for 350$.... or more related to your keyword research...

    After then you will save money if you will create similar domain name then proceed to SEO. And does the site you were talking(the 350$) is rank on google?

      This domain is not in indexed by Google yet, so I am assuming that the owner did not do anything with the website.The reason I would like to buy this domain is that it has a keyword and and another inspirational word in it. Unfortunately all combination with this two words are already taken, so I am thinking to buy this domain. Never done it before, so I am not sure what are the drawback of it.
