Would this linking strategy work?

Ok lets say i buy a website on sitepoint that is related to my niche. Lets also say this already established site has a higher page rank and alexa rank than mine.

I then host that on a class c ip address so its different and link it to mine.

Lets say i buy a few of those. Would that make an impact on my seo? If so how much?

Pros, cons, other ideas?

Maybe I don't understand, but this sounds like an extremely expensive way to build backlinks.

...but yes it would more likely than not achieve your desired effect.

Although is sounds like an expensive way to get back links, as
long as the other sites make a profit, then that can only be
good for your business. You could also interlink them to help
    out a bit.

I think I'd just go with the traditional methods of building backlinks. It's not really complicated.

I saw a link auction site for sale with a pr6 on sitepoint and I thought about doing the same thing i.e. using it to get a backlink to some of my sites.

But you still take on the risk that the site won't generate enough revenue to match what you paid for it.

Well im seeing sites with a pr4 pr 3 for between 50 and 200 bucks. So at that price wouldnt it be worth it?

I do this and it's worth it to me.

Just make sure you don't put sitewide links on your new site back to the one you want to promote. Also I like to write articles related the topic of the site I'm trying to promote and use keyword rich anchor text. It's not worth it if you don't bother to find good keywords as the anchor text and you want the page the links are on to relate.

Oh and make sure the site really has the PR. Do the research.

Thanks lisa. One question. What do you mean MAKE SURE the site has the PR? I load the site and i have the PR toolbar and it says it there. Thats all i need to check right?

Also what do you mean dont put sitewide links?

What i would do is post new content with anchor text on the sites i buy that point TO my main money site.
