How do you compete with thieves?

I launched a product on Clickbank and priced it at $47. I started getting sales but then they suddenly stopped as someone pinched my product along with sales copy and is selling it for $7. They're ranking very well on Google so all sales are going to him.

I've been forced to take it off Clickbank and lower my price to $7 just to compete.

Bit of a problem but anyway how do you compete with thieves?

Wow that stinks!!! I'm sorry that happened to you. Are they using Clickbank? Obviously not. I think I would report it to whomever they are using as a merchant to sell the item. If they are using PayPal or whatever, report the theft to them and get them shut down.

They're using Paypal. It cost me $1000 to create the product and website so it's a little annoying.

Issue a DMCA notice to the site owner and their web host.

I think Sbucciaral has some on her site.

If they did that, you should report them. Easy!

Write a detail article on how you worked on it and post it on your site. Also promote this article on ONE popular forum with a backlink to your main website. When people search your product, they may read this forum posts and know the real website

and yes also complain it to paypal or any other site they are using for payments

You don't compete with thieves. You issue a DMCA takedown notice to their host and you send a complaint to Clickbank as well.

Here's how you do it plus a sample DMCA notice you can use.

I would report them but I doubt they would do much about it. I would offer something better I mean you can beat them with your good work compared to their dirty work!

  • I have the same problem, i report them all the time

they just move on to the next free webhost and copy/paste my sales page and put their email address in there.

    however, i don't compete. I don't lower my prices.

reporting them kills their rankings at least before they move to another host.

I even get support requests from people buying the scammers version. CRAZY.

I've also taken to requiring a valid paypal email address for my software to work now. took some programming but should help curb the scammers.

You don't compete. Unfortunately, it is a part of doing business on the Internet. You learn the standard process of shutting them down and do so at ever available opportunity. You may have to find an investigator to locate the thief if the problem becomes too bad.

Additionally, you might consider finding ways to capitalise on this kind of a problem. One idea might be to offer a free continuity program or support forum for buyers that requires membership. If it is software, add protective measures that make it phone home to be activated or de-activated.

I know it ticks you off. It ticks me off too. I bought Ewen Chia's product with complete resell rights! I delayed setting it up, but when I did discover a discrepancy, I contacted Ewen's team. They informed me that I bought from a thief. I contacted them about whether I might have use of the product or if I could pay them something to get the rights, but they have never answered numerous requests after that. I even tried using different email accounts, but they do not reply so here I sit with a website all set and ready for nothing! A thief stole from Ewen and me, and I have been blackballed by Ewen.

Life moved on and so did I.

I am sorry to hear about the thief. I hope you manage to make out successfully.

As others here have stated, issue a DMCA notice to the one doing this, their hosting company, and who their website is registered with. Stealing and selling someone's material without permission is illegal. Just because it's online doesn't make it okay or legal. Set your price back to where it was and send out the DMCA. You will be back in business soon.

Some people do this type of thing and totally know what they are doing, yet do it anyway. Others are truly ignorant about online material and think it's just fine to take it and call it theirs. The DMCA should take care of it quickly.

Not only that, you can also report it to Google - who will drop them from the index.

    That sucks!

    I would report it!

I love the idea of setting up your site to drip the content via email or make it web-based with a membership log in.

Anything like that will deter a thief. They will just move on to another easy score.
