To start making four figure or any figure, you must have a blueprint. E.g If you want to make $1000 creating and selling a product, you must have a system on ground. Its not an immediate thing.
1. And idea
2. Put your idea together or outsource
3. Get a site: domain and hosting
4. Create a sales letter
5. Set up merchant account or payment solution
6. Get autoresponder
7. Advertise for free or paid with your sales funnel
8. Make money,
9. Make your first sale and repeat the process
This whole process should take 90 days for anyone who want to make sustainable income

Good post. It's too easy to get caught up in the hype and expect something for nothing with an online business.

To be successful everyone needs to learn the basics, take time, focus on the outcome and be consistent.

You're right, there are no shortcuts.

But how many people can say that it was that initial "magic formula" that caught their eye and got them interested?

I'm sure many successful marketeers are where they are today through hard work, but were initially looking for instant wealth. We can thank the warrior forum for providing the information often left out of these "get rich quick online" schemes, but some of us can thank those over inflated sales pitches for getting us interested in the first place.

On the flip side - the right ebooks to the right audience will make you 1000's of dollars a day. True

Its deffinately down to personal circumstance. Will selling a dog training ebook on the #1 spot on google for the term dog training make you 1000's? More than likely, will it do it on auto pilot? Probably for a while.

I think the real point, and the most valid is

I agree with you as well! My point was that many people advertise Ebooks that will make you thousands of dollars when they really will not and that is a big mistake most newbies make.

I find that the problem with lists of truths and falsehoods, or myths vs. facts, is that they are very rarely accurate. They are derived from one person's perceptions only. In this case, I'd say this person's perceptions have been skewed.

Very rarely is something always correct or always incorrect when it comes to trying to state absolutes, especially in this business.

According to the OP, without a mentor you can't be successful so how could they be a credible mentor without success?

Point is, you don't need a mentor to be successful. Obviously it can help in some cases but it's not vital.

It's really hard to generalize based on the broad, sweeping statements given by the OP. It rarely is as black and white as what is being asserted, there's a lot of grey area in between so I'd say that in all 20 statements/claims above, the only truthful answer that can be given is "it depends".

I think that posts like this help us to be more aware of whats out there and proceed with caution. Even if we don't agree with every opinion, it is helpful to err on the side of caution. My suggestion is that newbies should try things out first as a hobby and with minimal investment before venturing into more expensive things.

Hmm, I see many valid points on there but also some which are dubious which have been highlighted by others, I would most agree with Neil Morgan's post. I think for newbies the best lesson you can learn is apply common sense and get ready for lots of hard work.

I think the trouble is with this business, is that there are TOO MANY people selling the dream instead of the reality that it is.

Yes there is a ton of money to be made online, but this doesn't come without a HUGE amount of hard work and a passion to succeed.

If you don't apply these to the equation, the likeliness is that you will have quit long before you make your first cent online!

Some of these points, like having a mentor, are not a necessity, but they certainly help point you in the right direction, and help you to believe in yourself and that this business really is possible for you.

  As someone who has disjointed pockets of small success online I would say that all generalised lists are just as bad as the flip side that you will be a millionaire by the time you reach the end of the training guide.
  
  A proven way to become a success in anything is to build on things that work and those that don't discard or adjust.
  
  Once you grasp that, it is just a matter of finding your first thing that work. For me it has been writing for others it is fleecing newbies.

You will start to make good money the minute you decide to think outside of the box..the very box all the gurus put folk in..

I read one story about a marketer who made 250K just by providing free similey downloads...

Sadly, Newbies don't have any way of knowing who is 'credible' and who is not. I learned from a 'mentor' a few years ago - all he did was take my money and run - FAST.

While working with a 'credible' mentor can/will do a world of good for you, how can a newbie tell 'credible' from not - without losing a couple grand in the process?

I bought a piece of software a few years back. The marketer I bought it from called me a few months ago. He went on and on about how they were looking for the 'right' people they could mentor - it won't cost a dime, they just want testimonials. Then they asked me if I was in charge of the financial decisions????

I definitely don't try to teach people to make money online. I am kind of a mentor of another kind - a support person- the kind of mentor who tells others that it's ok to fail in IM - in fact, you have to - but you have to immediately get back up and try again.

I'm the 'go-to-gal' when they come crashing down. Then I get them back up and get them started again.

In THAT respect, then YES everyone should have a mentor - someone who will help them, however they need it.

In my opinion, if you're in IM, you shouldn't (not can't - shouldn't) be in IM without someone with you, for whatever reason.

One thing that I think people have missed here is that the internet is just like other information sources.

When printing presses came out, life changed... newspapers came out and people made money with papers.

When radio emerged, radio ads and shows developed, and people made money.

Same with television. Same with cable.

The same with the internet.

And now, the same with mobile devices.

All this technology is another way to get a message across. And whenever technology as this is spread to the masses, many folks find out how to make money... in ways both good and bad. Both shyster and saint.

In the long run, no one media source is the end-all.

People are still successful with direct mail.

People are still successful with radio.

People still do well with magazines.

And people do well with the internet.

It is a matter of looking at the industry and learning what works... where. And adapting.

Find out what works for you... then do it.

Be a doer.

I couldn't agree more, some people have this twisted and parochial notion that all the promotion and marketing that they do should be via the internet only. They're depriving themselves of so much by doing this.

As you've so astutely mentioned, the internet is just another marketing and advertising medium. There is tremendous synergistic power to be derived in combining two or more mediums, but sadly so few people are recognizing this potential and limit themselves to only one medium (the internet).

Sorry but some of your 'truths' are wrong in my experience.

There's nothing wrong with saying that something is your opinion but please don't think you know everything and are listing 'facts' when they're nothing more than your opinion.

Some people that are new here will mistakenly believe what you say as fact when you state it like that.

I find it offensive that someone would even post a list like this because it's just ignorant and misleading.

Let's take just one thing from that list:

That's just YOUR experience - it's not a lie. I know a few people that were completely ignorant of internet business and yet made a full time income within 2 weeks of starting online.

It IS possible.

Just because it's not common, or isn't your experience - doesn't make it a lie.

Telling people it is just misleads them and can only limit their thinking.

Maybe I'm being harsh - but this community has a lot of my friends in it and I don't like to see people misleading them.

You want to write an IM ebook with your list of 'truths' - go for it, but don't pretend like you're a guru with indisputable facts when they're just superficial opinions.

Forums are used to bring to fore what others need to learn and in it there are different opinions:

Anyone can also differ by being constructive. What you tell newbies, how they start a business will determine the results they get. If you learn internet business the wrong way, you become a quack too.

Internet business has been presented like rocket science. You have seen people with just few post who want to run WSO. This is because of the paints that has been given in ebusiness that you can make all the money over night.

In my honest mind and intent, I do not need any product creation from this list except you who pointed it out is thinking you could, and I suspect that.

More itemized list of Truths and Lies will help in no small way the people on this forum. If 1000 truths and lies are itemized here, just think of what it would have done to people. There are a lot of scams going on and they also need to be checked from these lies and truths.

That's just YOUR experience - it's not a lie. I know a few people that were completely ignorant of internet business and yet made a full time income within 2 weeks of starting online.

It IS possible.

Just because it's not common, or isn't your experience - doesn't make it a lie.

Telling people it is just misleads them and can only limit their thinking.

Maybe I'm being harsh - but this community has a lot of my friends in it and I don't like to see people misleading them.

You want to write an IM ebook with your list of 'truths' - go for it, but don't pretend like you're a guru with indisputable facts when they're just superficial opinions.

Your post is quiet interesting, almost all trivia was true for me. Many internet marketer say's that it's easy to earn money using internet but i doubt that, it's not easy to earn money using internet you must knowledgeable enough.

As a former engineer, I get a kick out the whole 'rocket science' thing...

Rocket science at its core is simple. Start a chemical reaction that forces a large volume of hot air through a small opening to create thrust. That's it.

Rocket science itself is no more complicated than a fart.

Now the systems to control that rocket, that's another story...

I think it's best if one was to treat internet business in the same way as regular, offline business on a slightly different platform. You wouldn't make all those faulty assumptions about offline business. Why should your internet business deserve any less?

Sharing this to newbies makes them welcome in WF.. Even this information is just part of others experienced, but combining them is a great thing and you can use them to start your own niche...

We know that we cannot gain money with only a night, we need to undergo to different steps, we might fail but we can still step to another plans so we can be successful in this field.

I have been running Internet Business for years now. I have several products numbering into 20. I am telling newbies that Internet Business is not a get rich quick. Don't start with "Make all the money overnight" product sellers. Start small and see the big picture.

hate it when I mentor people, for free, and they don't see success in the first two days, so they go buy some product that promises riches in hours.

Then they don't see success, then they quit.

They need to listen to me, it took me three months to get my first check!

After that? Well, then it was rinse and repeat, life on easy streak.

The problem is that newbies never (or seldom) listen to valuable hard-earned advice, and have to be taught (often painfully) through actual experience. They all think that some magic bullet exists out there, and it typically takes them several months of failed attempts to finally realize that such a thing simply does not exist, after which they finally knuckle down and focus, or get lost/distracted!

How about experience being the best teacher...long lonely hours of hard work toiling away late into the night staring at a computer screen drinking 5 hour energy drinks while your buddies are out getting "lucky"... but you're there eating spaghettios or ramen noodles and arguing with the dog at 2 AM over your non-comprehensible sales copy, poor spelling and researching your next bright idea... an ebook on the truth and lies of internet marketing. Nah... it would never work. Nobody would buy it and then you would just slip further into desperation as you try to come up with another idea for a short report that you could sell for $5... NO! $7!!! That's it! EUREKA FIDO!

  There's truth to most of the things the TS pointed out. There are people who did earn money online quickly but they are more of an exception than the rule. Newbies are often led to believe that the internet is their personal pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. While the possibility is there, realistic expectations have to be laid out at the outset.

Why is someone always trying to discourage the jobless? I lost my job. I've made more money with im than with my job search. Not much yet but I have a chance. And i have nothing better to do.

Don't stop the job hunt but don't stop working on im.
