.co.uk and .com pointing to the same site

I would like to point a .co.uk and a .com to the same site with the same content. No canonical, no 301, just plain pointing A records to the same website. Why should I/ should I not do this? My audience is people who would travel to UK.

As far as my experienced you can point your .co.uk and .com to the same. But one thing that you should do that is make .com as your primary or main site. I mean host your site on .com and point .co.uk to it.

All the backlinking, promotions etc. should be for your main .com site and .co.uk is just use to point to that main site.

He is exactly right it is what you should do with domain variations.

But can I be sure that pointing my .co.uk or my .com.mt to the same site as the .com will not penalize me for duplicate content etc?

Pretty sure, I'd think? It wouldn't actually be duplicate content, for a start: duplicate content refers (for this purpose) to having multiple copies of text within a single website.

          Hi,

would that help to gain better rankings/trust etc. for the .com domain or what is the benefit of pointing the co.uk to the .com ? (just wondering ..)

          Thanks

Why should you use your same site for more than one domain. I told that put your main site and only one site on .com and point your .co.uk or .co.mt to that .com site so there is only one site and others are just using as redirection.

So in that case you should not be worried for duplicate content.

I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty certain you will need to 301 one of the domains otherwise Google will see the two as separate sites with the same content. Mythical duplicate penalty or not, if google sees them as two sites then your content could get split in the search results, i.e., the uk could outrank the com for certain pages and vice versa.

Whether that's something you want is your decision but IMO I'd want the search engines and my visitors to see all content on the one site, plus your pagerank will get divided which might lose you a bit of ranking power.
